Empowering the spirit. Enriching the mind.

On the road to Chicago finally. I couldn't wait to get out of class that day. Lucas picked me up with Wes and Allison, and we were on our way to U of I. The whole story started when Allison wanted to go to Unofficial at U of I. I didn't. So me and the guys cooked up a plan to to head to Chicago afterward. The trip there was a little longer than a normal trip to Chi-town, but it went off without a hitch.

When we drove into Riverforest, I couldn't help but think that it looked familiar. I dismissed the thought because there are so many suburbs up there. I later found out that's where my mom and I went to look at Frank Lloyd Wright's studio home. We spent Friday night waking around Concordia Chicago's campus, stealing signs and whatnot. To tell the truth, I can't see how anyone can get an education there.

Saturday was pretty sweet. We got a ride downtown from Wes' friend from Concordia, and spent all day downtown. We walked Michigan Ave. and Navy Pier. And shit was it cold. I bought some shot glasses to add to my collection. By the way, I'm of legal drinking age now, which is sweeter than I thought it could be. I really wasn't that excited, and I haven't been out to the bars yet, but being able to order a beer is oh so sweet.

Did I mention it was cold? We saw Niketown and the Apple Store. John Hancock Building, Water Tower mall, all the Tourist Stuff. We didn't have any money though, so I only bought those two shot glasses. Arguably the best part of the trip was the EL train ride back to Riverforest. The sun had just set, and we had a 20 minute ride ahead of us. About 3 minutes in, a large black man sat down next to me. I could smell the vodka. "Shit. Is this guy going to mug me? Rob me? Stab me?" He ended up being a really philosophical drunk man, and carried on for a few minutes about how people can let go of addictions, no matter how long it takes. Then he talked about how our blood is all the same color underneath the skin. Nice guy, he was.

Other than a few shady looking dudes (possibly gang members), we made it back and proceeded to take some more signs. The masterpiece is a large banner showcasing the logo and motto of the school. "Empowering the Spirit. Enriching the mind." Seems like a pretty expensive sign too.

The week went by pretty fast actually. I wasn't planning on spring break starting so soon. I found out that I failed two midterms. I've got my work cut out for me for the rest of the semester. We'll see what I can do.

Tomorrow my dad's taking me out to Dancer's for a belated birthday present. He's also taking this opportunity to get a tattoo. I know, kinda bizzare right? Oh well. I'll update later and let everyone know how it went.
