Man, the new Wolverine trailer looks pretty retarded. I think it's safe to say that X-men doesn't really translate well into movies. I mean, I grew up loving X-men. The cartoon was kickass... but man, X3 was bad. This new trailer for Wolverine's own little prequel looks full of cheesy moments trying had to be badass. I just can't forgive it. Just like I can't forgive Spiderman 3. Maybe the Dark Knight has just set the bar way too high.
I beat Dead Space. Not being a fan of the survival-horror genre, I was a bit skeptical. The decision to purchase it was based off a few reviews, Mandy's desire to see it played, and a guy at work who said it was kickass. It most definitely was.
Not being one to have had the pleasure of playing games with really sweet graphics for a long while, this game blew me out of the water with its presentation, lighting FX, and overall look. Normally I am not one to argue graphics as a big selling point for games, but the look of this game helped to sell me on the atmosphere. It just sucked me in from the moment I took control to the very end. The complete immersion caused by lack of a Heads Up Display and incorperating all menus right into the game was just amazing. This also led to some pretty intense moments... there was nothing to pull out out of the action but the pause button, but who the hell would want to pause such a gripping experience?
Storywise, I was a bit dissapointed. The character development could have really been fleshed out had they not tried to turn Isaac (the main dude) into another Gordon Freeman/Master Chief. Silent heroes are one thing, but the game kept telling me I had to do these things so I could escape and save the love of my life... but I didn't feel it. The only reason I pressed on was for the challenge and to kick some space zombie ass. I found myself pretty much talking to the game everytime another character gave me a task. "Isaac, you have to fix the air filters or we're gonna run out of air... but you're going to have to hunt down these putrid former-humans contaminating it to do so," commanded a little video screen with some bitch on the other end. I longed for a sigh, or complaint to come from Isaac with each turn of events, but he remained mute. What a tool. Also, I didn't really dig the ending to the story, but the gameplay portion of it was great.
2nd only to the atmosphere, the gameplay rocked. You can sum it up by saying limb-shots are the new head-shots, zero-gravity can be disorienting, and everybody loves kinesis/time control. Borrow enough elements from badass games and you're likely to get a good gameplay combo that works.
I would recommend playing this game. Maybe... oh, I don't know: 8 out of 10.
I have had a lot of thoughts I'd like to place in my journal but most are too disjointed. Looking forward to a little Gundam tonight with Donut, but wtf is with my computer and it's performance lately? Fucking laptop.
The USG Ishimura should have asked for Samus Aran. She rocks alien infestation bullshit.
