I finished reading Watchmen yesterday. It wasn't until the novel was complete that I fully appreciated it and realized how awesome it was. You know, the reason I believe many say it is overrated is because our generation is over-exposed compared to the teens of the 80's. I mean, it's not uncommon to see such writing in comics these days. Such violence and wrong-doing. Blood, sex, and evil. I think Watchmen was a fantastic mystery story and one that will make an awesome movie, despite the director changing the ending. Also, there is a reason Rorshach is so goddamn popular. But really, the moments in the book that were given full/half pages of art and were meant to be visually shocking? These will look AMAZING on the big screen, and with the proper build-up, things will work out well.
Hello internet.
I realized the other day that I have only updated my journal twice this month. This made me pretty sad because just last month I vowed to update it more. I think the reason my internet-self has been lacking recently is that I've just been enjoying myself a lot. Fallen into a nice routine at work, have every night together with the love of my life... Oh, and I spoiled myself and purchased a PS3.
Don't get me wrong, I am a loyal Nintendo fan, but I'm dissapointed. All the games I was looking from them have come and gone. Metroid, Smash, Galaxy... amazing, brilliant games. But it's time to move on. It's time to experience grit, graphics, and grueling action. It's time to venture through Fallout 3 and Dead Space. I've already hit the max level in Fallout 3 and completed the game. In short, it was a great adventure... so much attention to detail. But what really takes the cake is Dead Space. I have never been more amazed with atmosphere in a game. The lighting, the graphics, the gameplay... it's superb. I think what I like most is that the game is so influenced by other great titles and makes use of great themes. Gravity control (HL 2) time manipulation, the eerie sense of being alone... it's all there, and makes for a great thriller. What really sells me is that the game absorbs you. You are immersed. There is no Heads Up Display. There is just you, your weapon, and an alien-infested ship. Kick ass.
Gonna make more of an effort to keep connected with the family I am far away from. Starting today.
Also, I am still kickass at work, even if nobody cares anymore.
Happy Thanksgiving, livejournal.
Sadly, if I was one of the heroes of Watchmen, I'd probably be Night Owl
