Tonal Sketch # 2: “Rodney and Claire (Floating Opera Version 1)” is a riverboat theme arranged for bass, piano, muted trumpet and guitar. It is designed to be played by a drifting band to a stationary audience on the shore, to fade out as subtly as it had drifted in. There are many variations on this theme (almost as many as there are mistakes in this version!), and it’s uncertain what they will grow into.
