I worked for Steve Assmussen at Keeneland for a short time, like June-ish of '07; I don't know whether he would remeber me or not. Seemed like a pretty decent down-to-earth person the few times he came out to watch the breezes. I really liked his galloping program, anyway, and there are very few trainers I feel that way about. I was unfortunately never in the loop enough with his crew (due much more to the man I was involved with at the time and my own lack of social skills more than to a lack of trying to include me on their part) to know anything about the bad tests and such he's come under scrutiny for, but I especially liked working under the hyper-organized, competent, efficient and effective (albeit demanding) assistant trainer he had stationed there
( ... )
Medaglia D'Oro is her daddy, and I don't know the dam without looking it up. A big operation that he has will attract different people working for him so who knows about the positives, I judge him by what I've seen with with Curlin and Rachel, and they don't need drugs to be the great champions that they are, at all. I enjoy reading your perspective on the sport that I love-keep riding, you'll get there! ;)
