to remind the reader: Mass Soldiers, Sailors, and Marines of the Civil War has him discharged from the 11th [Regiment] Veteran's Reserve Corps in Dec 1864 but has no date for his transfer from Co I, 32d Mass Volunteer Infantry
between the time they mustered as a regiment (July 1862) and Devil's Den (2 July 1863), 32d MVI lost approximately 770 officers and men (assuming they mustered ~1000) despite only having been heavily engaged once (assault on Marye's Heights, Fredricksburg where they lost 6 KIA and Mortally Wounded and 29 WIA); FWIW they were at Second Bull Run, Stone Mountain, and Antietam but not engaged. Devil's Den costs 22 KIA/MW, 59 WIA out of 227 engaged.
The regimental history in Soldiers, Sailors, and Marines notes they "suffered much from malarial fevers" during six weeks at Harrison's Landing in 1862. Based on that line, I'm guessing WHW invalids b/c of malaria; guards prisoners until Dec 1864 discharge.
I've seen the card for Lucy's pension claim but not the actual file yet.
