Most of my life, when I needed to do my "business" in a public bathroom I would use the handicap one. Who doesn't? It's just bigger and more spacious. about a year ago, this stopped. I was doing my thing, then when I left the bathroom, there was a guy in a wheelchair, waiting for me. I felt so horrible I stopped.
I also read an article a little while after that stated the closer the bathroom stall is to the door to the bathroom the more clean it is going to be, because people tend to pick the farthest stall. I honestly believe this because I don't feel comfortable using the first one so I skip it. However, since then, i have been using the first one and have noticed a considerable difference.
However, I have come to realize at my new job, there aren't any handicap people in the whole building so I am now ok with using the handicap one, only at my job.
