Icon meme from haleysings!

01. Comment to this entry saying 'ICONS!' and I will pick 6 of your icons.
02. Make an entry in your own journal and talk about the icons I picked!

An icon of a character I basically...'half-created' -- because he's technically both a canon character and an OC. XD Explanation--Caras, as the icon says, is a crucial character in the post-series fanfic for Princess Tutu I've been working on for the longest time, Chapter of the Bird. The art and icon are both by mangaka_chan, who drew the actual art a while back before she made the icon. (Really, she surprised me with it one day in one of her icon posts, it wasn't by my prompting XD ) I use this icon sparingly, usually only in conjuction with mentions of my fanfic, or perhaps mentions of ravens or crows as an inside joke XD I also ended up using it as the default icon (because honestly, it's perfect for that purpose) when I was RPing him on the ID menschlicherabe.

OMG, Digimon 02! This one of my other most beloved shows (it's actually right up there next to Princess Tutu, and that's saying something). I haven't gotten in the fandom for it really (it usually involves either too much technicality with the Digimon that I can't keep track of -- it'd have to be a video game for me to do that XD -- and also of course the fact that fandom usually focuses too much on pairings for my taste anyway XP )

But Davis, or Daisuke in sub tradition, is one of my favorite characters because he's so lovable. ♥ It seems that at least some people find him annoying? D: I personally adore his gung-ho, pure shounen spirit, and how he might not be all that smart but he's got a heart of gold and guts of steel. ^o^ Also, it may not be obvious but he can be pretty perceptive at times; it just seems to go against his stereotype so most people don't notice XP

As for this icon in particular, well it's for the very reason that I love his spirit that I just have to have an icon of his OMG GAR expression on my icon roster. XD Nobody does it quite like him. (Of course, Kamina of Gurren Lagann fame does it even more epic GAR, but I relate more to the more boyish and innocent air that he has.)

First thing, you knew I had to have at least one icon of Prince Siegfried in my roster somewhere, for those of you familiar with Tutu fandom, right? XDXD This was a request at drazel_jollux (however the maker seems to have disappeared off LJ :( ), which I provided the screenshot for. I liked the image, and while I wasn't sure if I'd be using it, I thought I might have a use for an icon that said, "oh god, getting epic pwned, help plz", or showing that I or somebody's having a hard time. :x A fairly serious icon, so commonly not for lolz or humor contexts, and it's different from the November one down there since that's for more a study/work-ish exhaustion, while this is more emotional or troubling.

Also an icon of a character I created, 'cept this time she's fully an OC. XD Also hailing from my Princess Tutu fic Chapter of the Bird, the outfit she's wearing is also designed by the artist, mangaka_chan. While the one above for Caras is one on her deviantArt page, this one is from a print she gave me personally at AX 2007 when we met in person for the first time. ♥ The icon itself is just a crop I did of the scan of that print -- at first it was done as a default and 'thoughtful' icon for when on a whim I made an account for her at kanadareiher. I liked it enough that it ended up filling the last space of my 15 icons as my new thoughtful/contemplative/pensive icon (previously the equivalent was another Siegfried icon that I eventually cleared out to make room for others, which is why I just had to have another Siegfried one to replace it :P )

One I made! (Or to be honest, cropped, I hardly edited it from the original page aside from sizing and cleaning up.) It's Princess November from the webcomic No Rest for the Wicked, an excellent fantasy webcomic based on retelling and mixing together all different fairy tales. It has a good dose of humor but can also be quite chilling at times, too. (Sometimes both at once. XD;; ) On a whim I set out and made a batch of icons from some of the first few chapters. I decided to use this one because it reminds me of the times when I want to say, "Geez. My brain is fried, I really can't work anymore" or anytime I'm just finally done with something. The expression and the action in the picture seem to me to convey this well. (She's holding an atlas by the way, which has a personal significance to November.)

This icon is interesting in several ways. One, it doesn't actually show a character directly in it; it shows a drawing of one character by another who is off-screen. It's from the show Cardcaptor Sakura, and it's when the heroine is doodling in her homework of a creature she saw in a dream. Hence, the text added. I like this icon not only because it's one of my two refs to an anime I fangirled over so much once upon a time, but because of the multiplicity of the mood of it. It has a lighthearted feel with the cute drawing and the somewhat humorous reference to Sakura's dream -- yet the words have a mysterious air to them, and the cute drawing shows something that is of yet unknown to her and magical.

Short of it -- it's cute and mysterious at the same time, and that's rare. XD Also, this works very well as both a 'writing' and 'art' icon, so I use it fairly often.

...Uh, yeah. Long. That's why I take a while on these memes because I just blab on and on and don't know enough from enough XDXD;;

...In other news, you know that exam I was making a huge deal about over the summer and fretting over and etc.? ...I totally aced it. 8D Okay, so I found out about a week ago and I was wondering whether to mention it or not, but doggone it I don't celebrate my successes enough. It's like, "oh yay, I did it!!1!.....*goes back to work*" >_< Bad habit of mine, bad habit.

No sir, my parents asked me what I wanted to do to reward myself for this hard-won (no kidding o_o) accomplishment, and today I proposed it to them -- I want to try to go to AX this year. :D AX 2007 was my very first con, and it was so busy but it's the reason I went to Fanime the following years. ♥ In addition, this summer looks to be the most free that I've had in a long time, so if any year is possible in the near future, it's this one. ^o^ Fanime is almost for sure, unless something unexpected happens.

But AX -- if I go, I really, really want to participate in the voice-acting contest (part of AX Idol if you didn't know about the voice acting division of it). The first AX I was at, I went to the contest because I was interested, but I had no idea it was something you had to sign-up for ahead of time (or that it even existed before I got to the con o_o ).

Fanime 2009, I was at a voice-acting panel and I was a constant volunteer to go up and read the lines, as often as the panel director would pick me X3 Apparently, I did a really good job, because I did keep getting called up by the panelist (who is a professional voice actor for anime, though none that I was really familiar with), and it seemed like not only he but the other audience people were impressed by my performances XD it was SO SO fun too.

So I figured that of all people, I should consider getting into that contest and see how I do. :3 I admit, the idea does make me nervous, because it's not just exhibition but competition, and actual professionals from companies would be judging...but you know, I also think, nothing ventured, nothing gained, right? Maybe something cool will come out of my attempt, even if I don't get farther than the prelims. ♥ The only issue...I have no idea how you compete, and the site doesn't have next year's instructions up yet. :( I suppose the most I can do at present is look at the winners posted on Youtube and see how at least it goes from the outside.

But before AX, I'm reasonably sure I'm going to Ohayocon this year! \o/ AND GUESS WHAT. Due to some epic compact careful packing-skillz by my parents and me, I brought my Siegfried costume over here to Ohio, and if I'm going, doggone it I'm bringing that cosplay. And wearing it around all the time, I swear. XDXD It'll be my first time going to an East coast con, and my anime club goes to this every year too, so it'll be quite exciting for sure! (And a contrast from the big California conventions I've gone to exclusively until now XP )

...And wow, I totally did *not* intend to go on that ramble when I came up just to post the meme. XDXD
