Icon meme, cool fanarts, an unintentionally(?) hilarious online RPG

Icon meme from mangaka-chan:
1. Reply to this post, and I will pick three of your icons.
2. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.
3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4. This will create a never-ending cycle of icon squee. Whoo!

mangaka-chan asked for these:

This was the end result of a random intent attempt (successful!) at finding skit icons from Tales of the Abyss. I realized that I really wanted a skit icon of Ion looking disappointed. I felt like it really visualizes my times of feeling bad or disappointed about something. He can manage to have that expression without looking too mean or sarcastic about it (summed up in "doh..." :P ). Plus, I've been really getting to like Ion a lot, so I wanted to have an icon with him anyway. (So yes, in a way I was looking for this icon specifically! XD ) I think intially I was looking for the one where his eyes were partially open, but later when I found the actual skit caps from ryuudo and found it, I realized I still liked this one better. XD I edited this from the original (with the creator's permission) with a treatment of color enhancing with Paint Shop since the scan quality wasn't stellar. I really like this icon and I use it frequently when applicable situations come up.

Another Ion icon, but of a decidedly different tone than the previous one. We get to see Ion kicking serious butt, along with that determined expression that really gets to me somehow, especially coming from such a gentle, intelligent guy like him. I think I somehow gravitate to images of otherwise really nice (and perhaps effeminate? o_O) guys opening cans of major whoop-ass. Prince Siegfried is another example of this. XP The image itself I think is from the manga (which generally I don't particularly care that much about), yet it's colored so perhaps the icon maker added them in and they did a good job. Also the lightning wasn't there on the original image (I saw a scan of it somewhere), but its addition really gives the image such a striking effect. It makes him look so...well, badass, and badass Ion = INSTANT WIN. :D

One I made! (Or to be honest, cropped, I hardly edited it from the original page aside from sizing and cleaning up.) It's Princess November from the webcomic No Rest for the Wicked, an excellent fantasy webcomic based on retelling and mixing together all different fairy tales. It has a good dose of humor but can also be quite chilling at times, too. (Sometimes both at once. XD;; ) On a whim I set out and made a batch of icons from some of the first few chapters (which I plan to post when I finally get to organizing the other icons I've made so far). I decided to use this one because it reminds me of the times when I want to say, "Geez. My brain is fried, I really can't work anymore" or anytime I'm just finally done with something. The expression and the action in the picture seem to me to convey this well. (She's holding an atlas by the way, which has a personal significance to November.)

Also, name of an online RPG for which an ad popped up on LJ:

The struggle between vampiles and werewolves has rampaged for centuries. It's your destiny to decide this battle!
Bitefight

...I kid you not. O_O Honestly, do they WANT us to be unable to take a dark horror RPG seriously? XD;;

And now for something a bit different....fanart recs? (Instead of fanfic...)

okami+mononoke - sea and sky

This pic is especially cool if you've at least seen Okami being played. :D The artist did a fantastic job emulating the style of both Monoke and Okami, which both have this East Asian art style that's very distinctive. It helps that Amaterasu is human and thus has a different design that allows it to be adapted to Mononoke, but I can definitely tell that's the wolf we know and love. The Medicine Seller looks like you got him right out of the show, it's that accurate. But what I love most of all is the idea behind it. I adore the reference (and this is made clearer in the prose accompanying the art in the info) how Amaterasu is creating a sun from the clouds with the brush technique. That's what makes me remember pictures. XD

This one is just funny. XD Crossovers rock, and clever crossovers MAJORLY WIN. It's a cheerful little classroom scene with Botan the 'Grim' Reaper teaching the class about...death. XD (That's Bleach's Rukia, Death Note's Light, and Yuyu Hakusho's Yusuke, of which Botan is also from). It looks really nicely colored too; except for maybe Light, everyone is instantaneously recognizable and practically official-looking. Again, it's the references and the injokes that make the pictures stick out to me.

I'm concluding from these two pictures that I like pictures that are 1) crossovers, and 2) like "visual fanfics" where there's a sort of story going on in the picture that's interesting in a certain way. There are of course pictures that I like because they're just so pretty, but they usually need to be a series I like for it to actually stick out in my mind, or else REALLY amazing. If the art isn't AMAZING but the idea is awesome, from this I think I'll tend to really remember it. :)

OMG WHAT AM I DOING. HAVE TEST TOMORROW. SHOULD BE STUDYING.....*stomach grumbles*....but I should go eat dinner. D:
