Notes/Babbling: See, it's not that much because my brain is apparently running on half-speed (which means the inability for me to string more than ten words together at a time) and because DBZ sucked me back in when I found a few epics worth reading. And I must have read for 400k and I'm still not done with any of them and my brain is leaking out my ears now, yes. Too many words. .__. Mini-update today rather than super-hy00j update tomorrow.

Full Metal Alchemist - FMA futureverse by Shi Lin - I have such massive rabu for Shi-Lin and then she decides to tackle FMA futureverse with Roy and Ed? Where they're something sort of like warm and fuzzy, but not really because they're still Roy and Ed and it's more that they give ME that feeling because they're so much fun when they're snarking? Because she wrote Ed with glasses? And then my love goes even more fangirly and high-pitched. Because her writing is lovely, it's sharp and clear and pops everything so vividly right into my head, because she has this way of turning a phrase that doesn't hit me over the head, but I get just exactly the depth of Roy's feelings and I feel like I've been hit with the hammer anyway. Because she's brilliant at the UST thing, that dance they do around each other that fairly crackles with chemistry, but doesn't step too far over the line so that I don't believe it. Because she can write Roy and Ed going to a bookstore and I'm all *____*!!!!! over it. Because I can just see this future for them (not to mention it makes me feel all happy and gleeful inside), and the final scene of the third chapter in the kitchen? It's one of those scenes that I'd seriously consider giving my eyeteeth to be able to write because it felt like I could very nearly reach out and tangibly grasp the tension and emotions that were running through the scene. It's... one of those stories that felt three-dimensional to me, like I was inside of it, rather than just watching it through a glass window, if that makes any sense? ....and if she doesn't disown me for this disjointed rec, I'll still be hiding under the desk in embarassment. ~___~ (Light Roy/Ed, but is very quiet about it.)

Full Metal Alchemist - Fuel by Harukami - So FMA doesn't get nearly enough casefic, y'know? Much less by authors who can truly write. And it's not that I'm complaining about the pairingfic per se, more that it's a pleasant surprise to find lovely gen casefic by one of my favorite authors and Haru's really good at getting down all these little details that make me believe this truly was a case. There's none of that super-glossed over feeling that I get with authors who don't have the time/discipline to full bake the case part of the fic, instead this was a story that I thought could have stepped out of the series itself, that's how well she gets the style down. Plus, it was interesting and did exactly what it needed to do (framed nicely by moments of Ed being handed the case, visiting Havoc in the hospital--which was a nice way to give Ed a slight personal connection to this case AND a way to get some really fantastic Havoc - Ed interaction THAT I LOVE SO MUCH into the fic--and reporting back to Roy) without dragging on forever. The original characters were just that, not characters that took over in ANY way, instead barely even feeling like original characters at all, instead feeling more like part of the background (in a GOOD way, much like Ed's other cases felt like part of the background--nothing sticks out like a sore thumb here) and... oh, jeez, I'm babbling. Just go read this, it's really good and it's casefic that accomplishes its job wonderfully. <3 (No warnings/pairings.)

Full Metal Alchemist - The Desert Island by Harukami - [Note: SPOILERS for the entire anime series in this story and probably the rec as well.] If you had to pick one person to be trapped with on a desert island, who would you pick? This is a story that really sort of hit me out of nowhere, something that I wasn't expecting to be more than a light read, but somewhere along the line turned into something rather powerful. Haru does an amazing job with Hoenheim's character here as he can't help thinking about Ed and being honest about how his son views him. I love the tone she takes with him--not martyrd, but still resigned and accepting of the way things are, yet not entirely bitter, either. It's the exact right tone needed and the one that made me like the character so much in the anime. But even more than that, it's those two pieces of paper that hit me with the proverbial sledgehammer, the quiet power of them tremendously done. Oh, and the end. I get all wibbling just thinking about. Gorgeous, gorgeous father/son stuff here, which I have such the weakness for when it's done right like this. *babbles* (No warnings/pairings, spoilers.)

Prince of Tennis - Look Over Here by psychobunny - I was wary of this fic, since I fear Rikkai D2 being done badly (or that Marui will annoy me >__>a or that Jackal will be done badly and I'll cry), but this was a sweet little story about Jackal watching the sunset while Marui tried to hurry him up so that they wouldn't be late for practice. I know, wtf, eh? Marui and sweet in the same fic shouldn't work, but I kinda liked it here. It was the way Jackal was so... calm in this moment and yet he still went together perfectly with Marui that won me over. Plus, the kiss was cute! <3 (A little bit Jackal/Marui.)

Hikaru no Go - The Ashiwara Factor by anonymous_u5er - I shouldn't be reading Hikago fics, really. But it's all Aki's fault for writing that really good AkiHika fic and drawing me back in. And I really shouldn't have enjoyed this fic as much as I did, but... the writing was clean, the pacing smooth, and it made me grin at how adorable Ashiwara was in it. Plus, I totally have a fondness for Ogata/Ashiwara and this fic gave me just enough of that. (Multiple/Ashiwara.)

Bleach - Antagonistic by Celeste - Ichigo turned his eyes heavenward at Ishida's mocking tone. "God hates me," he announced, glaring angrily up at the sky. "YOU HATE ME, DON'T YOU!" *rolls around on the floor, collapsed into a pile of shaking giggle-afflicted fangirl* I... I... I... I was wary of the Ishida/Ichigo label on the fic, since I generally don't swing that way, but I love Celeste's humor and I have some seriously MAD love for the dynamic between these two and it was labelled as crack, I figured it might be all right. And, god, this is the kind of fic that tempts me so very badly because it's so funny. Ishida, with his knitting and unflappable attitude, Ichigo with his hot-headedness and the dialogue and just... I laughed the entire way through and the point between humorfic and parodyfic was hit beautifully with this fic and my rec isn't doing it justice at all, just go read and laugh. (Ichigo/Ishida, crack.)

Gravitation - Of All The Things I've Lost by DC - I'll grant that the humor falls a little flat several times here (the author is trying a little too hard to pack too much into a small space, I think), but the basic idea of it is cute, it did have some genuinely funny lines, he does a great job with the characters, especially the dynamic between Yuki and Shuuichi. And I'll admit I did *heehee* once or twice at Yuki's annoying Shuuichi with some of the worse answering machine lines. :D (Yuki/Shuuichi.)

Hunter x Hunter/Naruto - The Distance Between You and Me by Celeste - ....oh. I was expecting a cute, fun little crossover when I began to read this and for the most part it was... until somewhere around the middle, the author climbed inside both Killua and Sasuke's heads and drew absolutely beautiful parallels, the kind that took my breath away with the shocking rightness of them. The narrative of the story is just so utterly Killua, how much he understands, how he looks at the world and other people, the way his past is still a part of him, even right down to the way he and Sasuke fought. This crossover did justice to the depth of both series' characters and gave some absolutely brilliant insight into them and, oh, god, the end was adorable and this was just... genius. Beautiful, perfect, seamless, natural melding of the two stories and had me spinning in glee. (No warnings/pairings.)
