Oh, my gosh, that series by entanglednow... I wish I could pour the dialogue and characterization into a bowl and eat it with a spoon. I am going to stalk the heck out of that author from now on, because that was marvelous. I can't believe I read a series where the build-up to the physical was so dynamic and in-character and funny.

Excellent, excellent rec. Thank you!

I've been thinking about this comment a bit over the last day, about my approach to this fandom and I had this whole spiel mentally planned out about my feelings on sexytimes fic and how I feel about that in fandom and then I realize, "Oh, look what this fandom has driven me to." Talking about my complicated feelings on sexytimes fic! That I actually needed to stop and consider my feelings and readjust my approach to fandom, because that fic and talking about it (how it was such a good, satisfying resolution to the physical) catalyzed some internal realizations.

Long story short: When do I get to stop being a ridiculous person in this fandom? When does the good fic like this stop making me put far too much thought into these things?

Well, don't be a hold-out: where's the spiel? It's interesting to explore your feelings and thoughts about things (if you are an interesting person; if you're boring, then it's torture of the highest order...but you're the former, not the latter)!

*points finger* Terrible influence! Terrible influence! For something that's not even that interesting ( ... )

I am glad I asked, because you articulated some of the things that I've been mulling over or writing off as knee-jerk reactions--for example, I am also not traditionally a fan of John/Sherlock established relationship, because to me, the getting there is the element in which I am most interested, most desirous to read about.

entanglednow wrote a fic that I believe she tagged with "necks" (I'm blanking on the title), but it basically opens with "It was all an accident" or "mistake" (horrrrible paraphrase), and I was immediately enraptured, because it captured John's teetering so sublimely, almost established a mental struggle/sexual identity crisis without giving a lot of exposition. It was fantastic.

Anyway, I'm off to read more of your recs. Speaking of bad influences...

I often wonder if we'll ever get there--to the point that we'll stop wanting get together fics and instead craving established relationship fics. I'm beginning to suspect, though, that I won't get to that point until the show itself establishes the relationship. (For the most part. There are a few authors that I'll make exceptions for, of course.)

I sincerely, truly, honestly hope that you spend all night reading fic and are bleary-eyed in the morning for it. Pain loves to be shared.
