Well, I'll state upfront that I'm a cranky comics fan, so a lot I say (rant about >_>) should probably be taken with a grain of salt. I also don't mean to imply that people aren't allowed to ship what they want or that Cable & Deadpool wasn't any good. Fabian Nicieza is one of my FAVORITE WRITERS EVER OMG I HAVE SUCH A WORD CRUSHHHHHH because of that series! And a lot of this is from dealing with fandom-in-general rather than fandomsecrets-in-specific.

But I have strongly gotten the feeling that a lot of people only read C&D because it was "omg so slashy!" and that's all they ever read and, when Marvel cancelled the book and put them in their own series, people hated those books solely because omg Cable and Deadpool should never be broken up!!11

Meanwhile, I'm going, okay, yes, Cable is kind of a total crapfest right now (I want to like that book, but it's so boring) but some of Cable's appearances in the various mainstream titles have been gold! I remember an issue of X-Men (I think? I don't think it was Uncanny...) where Jean was like AWW SWEETIE AM I GOING TOO FAST FOR YOU? :D :D :D while Cable was puking his guts out over the side of the speedboat because she was driving way too fast and it was hilarious. Not to mention I actually liked Deadpool's stuff, especially the early issues in that Skrull nonsense. So I get kind of tetchy about those who say OMG THEY ARE COMPLETELY UNINTERESTING APART like it's tru fax. (This is more of a build-up thing than OMG SOMEONE IS WRONG ON THE INTERNET!!11, I think.)

And I do get frustrated with people who say OMG CABLE/DEADPOOL WAS SOOOO CANOOOOONNN when I'm like UH HELLO REMEMBER DOMINO? And it's not that I'm telling people not to ship it (because I certainly get where it comes from! and ships have been built on far less in the past! and I've shipped a lot of those myself!) but it's not default canon the way a lot of fans seem to think it is. Cable and Deadpool both have a long history before they were paired up and they'll have a long history after that book's run.

So, in short: I am a butthurt Cable fan (I love the character kind of ridiculous amounts--I'd never suffer through Cable otherwise XD) who is like UH HE HAS A PURPOSE OUTSIDE OF C&D YOU GUYS D:< at fandom a lot. And then add in a dash of, "Wow, you are really not in the minority for that, my friend. SIGH." to top it all off.

Holy crap, that was way longer and more LET ME DUMP MY FEEEEELINGS ON YOU than I meant it to be. orz

(As I said, hopefully no one takes me too seriously because I don't meant to step on toes. I'm a different breed of comics fan than most people on LJ and I'm working on that Taking Things Too Seriously issue. XD)
