Final Fantasy XII: Defeat by Akiko - This was a cute little Balthier/Fran piece where she convinces him to, as the summary says, concede on a bet they made. I really liked Fran's voice in this fic, it was a nicely done blend of cool and yet there was still passion there, which is just like her. Plus, the little touches, the way they flirt in their own way, was lovely, too. (Balthier/Fran.)

Glee: this ain't all it's cracked up to be. by catalysted - [Note: There are spoilers for 1x08 in the fic and this rec.] I'm not sure this narrative voice for Puck matches up with my own view of Puck's internal voice, but... the writing is lovely and I'm still quite in love with this episode, so viewing the events of it through Puck's POV is still fascnating to me. The author also has several really quotable lines in this and the writing is just so smooth and I would seriously love to read more from her. (Puck/Rachel.)

Glee: typical by falsemurmur - Quinn is one of the more fascinating characters on the show for me and this fic captures a lot of why that is, because she is a Mean Girl when she first starts out and she's sure of herself in that role and there's just something about her that's utterly confident in her place in the universe, which all changes after a certain point, of course. I really like this take on her relationships with Finn and Puck both, there's such an... almost elegant quality to the writing. Something that's really smooth and clean, that really worked for me as a Quinn piece. (Mentions of Finn/Quinn, Puck/Quinn. Neither are entirely the point.)

Glee: Never Had No One Ever by stainofmylove - [Note: Just go ahead and assume there are spoilers for 1x08 in this fic and this rec.] Oh, this was actually a really great exploration of the depths of Puck's character without stretching things too far or too hard--I mean, Puck? Having depth of character? It feels like it should be trying too hard! And yet it kind of doesn't, because the author does a fantastic job of keeping him still kind of shallow with the narration in his head, even as he sees a little more about the people around him--especially Rachel and himself--than you might think he would. It worked for me here. (Puck/Rachel, implications of the other canon stuff.)

Gundam 00: Twenty-Five by May_Flyer - Oh, man, there's nothing I enjoy more than a cranky Lockon who channels it into being cheerful because the rest of the Meisters are totally socially retarded. I'm used to a slightly fluffier Lockon than this, but I can really buy it here because he's at a tough place in his life (it's later on in the series) and he's full of so much anger and then the ending is... asdl;fkjaslkjs it's kind of beautiful. He looks at Tieria, who's looking at him, and Lockon gets it and Tieria is so... beautifully Tieria throughout the piece that this is one of those perfect little pieces in fandom. Despite this truly terrible rec for it. (Lockon/Tieria.)

Gundam 00: His Morning Routine by pratz - Okay, yes, this fic is barely more than 200 words. And it's mostly just Lockon going through a normal morning routine until the last couple of paragraphs or so, but. It's cute. And it totally made me smile at the end and it made me happy, so that's more than enough for me. It was a nice fix when I needed one. (Could be Lockon/Tieria.)

LOST: but weigh this moment with a future of your dreams no longer there by falsemurmur - [Note: There are some spoilers for the season 5 finale in this fic and this rec.] This is a gorgeous look at Juliet Burke in the later seasons of LOST, especially her relationship with Sawyer, which I... well, if she's happy, I'm happy for her. For both of them, really. I really love how much this fic just utterly nails that almost serene sort of bad ass that Juliet has going on, the way she approaches her feelings and her life, both in how straight-forward she is and how painful her life can be. The way she tells Sawyer about her feelings the first time was exquisitely written here, it was so very easy to see this as sliding together with canon. (Sawyer/Juliet.)

Sailor Moon: More Than Ice Cream by Alicia Blade - Granted, this story is very much a cliche--Mamoru and Usagi are still bitching at each other every time they see each other, but (for Mamoru) it's a cover for how he really feels about her and he drives himself crazy when she seems to be in love with someone else that he doesn't know and you can figure out where it goes from there--but this is Usagi and Mamoru. They are the epitome of romantic situations like this and that's the charm of this fic, that it throws itself right into the storyline and makes you (if you're a total sappy fangirl like I am) coo the entire time. The ending was satisfying for me as well, the build-up to it was nicely done and then resolution, and just... it's so shoujo in the way that Sailor Moon fic should be. (Mamoru/Usagi.)

Sailor Moon: Conversation by Sean Montgomery - This was a really cool little idea for a fic--set in the future, when Sailor Moon visits the future King Endymion and there's all this... weight between them, what's to come for her, what's already happened for him, the weight of everything he's carrying at the time. It's a wonderful look at both characters, you can see who both of them used to be and who they'll both become, all in the space of a conversation she has with him about how he's doing. I love how much is unsaid and how much is still said, how much you can feel how deeply Usagi and Mamoru love each other. Fics like this are ones that keep me coming back to this fandom. (Mamoru/Usagi.)

Sailor Moon: I'd Rather Be in Love by Odango Atama - Granted, there's only one chapter of this (written in 2007 and probably not going to be updated again) but it's such a fun little thing that I had to recommend it. It's got a really fun, high-energy Usagi voice that's cute to imagine and there were a handful of moments that felt pretty spot-on to me--Usagi's mental narration as she's having yet another fight with Mamoru was kind of perfect. And, yes, it's a cliche set-up (what if Haruna-sensei took a leave of absence and Chiba Mamoru was chosen to step in as her replacement) but the author just runs with it and does a delightful job at the snarking-at-each-other dynamic between the two of them that I think I grinned my whole way through this. (Mamoru/Usagi.)

Sailor Moon: Ruining the Mood by Heavenly Pearl - I wasn't sure what I was going to get when I clicked on this fic (but I was a little wary--Usagi and Mamoru try to spend a night together in her room? I... was not sure why that would happen), but I wound up with this cute little piece that was just kinda fun. I love that it's bit of normalcy in their lives, given how little they get of it, and the author didn't try to milk it too hard. It was just really cute! (Mamoru/Usagi.)

That '70s Show: untitled by falsemurmur - This fandom is such a tricky thing, because I was so in love with the Hyde/Jackie pairing and then canon went and... well, the less said about that, the better, probably. And it's made things difficult to wade into the fandom, nevermind that it's difficult to find actually good fic for them. But I was browsing the small fandoms meme, saw this fic, and had to read it, which I'm really glad I did. It's a short-ish piece about where Jackie's future goes, how Hyde seeps back into it, how you can feel that they've both gotten older, but are still very much themselves. I like the style of it as well, it's mostly a summation of the years going on, interspersed with snippets of dialogue or flashes of imagery, it gives the pieces a nice overview of their relationship. And I definitely really liked the take on the tone of the way they get back together. <3 (Hyde/Jackie.)

- Bleach - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - Well, I had to be won over to this site, didn't I? Cute Orihime fanart, then some really lovely Byakuya/Rukia art, and then the artist even tossed in a smidge of Hitsugaya/Matsumoto art! I definitely came here for the Orihime art--and the artist does a nice job with the glossy orange/white/black that often comes with UlquiHime--but wound up staying for the artist giving me three pairings I don't get all that often and all of them are really kinda pretty. Some illustrations are admittedly prettier than others, but the artist here shows so much potential and occasionally has some really lovely stuff. That's all I wanted! <3 (Ulquiorra/Orihime, Byakuya/Rukia, some Hitsugaya/Matsumoto.)

- Bleach - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - You know, it's sites like this one that make me wish I were more into this pairing, because I think I'd have been over the moon for this site if I were. It admittedly starts out a little shakey, but gets some really cool and interesting stuff going on by the end. The artist is less about the glossy orange/black/white theme and tends more towards cool blues and soft whites, but I like that style and she really works it well here. Plus, wow, there is SO MUCH ART that it took me ages to go through. Overall, this was a really solid site with some charming stuff and I got my Orihime fix! (Ulquiorra/Orihime.)

- Bleach - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - I feel like I've been to this site before, but maybe I've just seen art similar to this artist's work or something. And the site is more of an Ulquiorra site, rather than an Orihime site (which is what I was looking for tonight), but... well, the art is really beautiful and there was enough of her to give my fix, so I had to cave on it. The artist does these glossy, sharp blacks and whites that look really good on the characters, occasionally mixing in some softer colors that also work with it. It's a really lovely site that I'm glad to have stumbled over today. (Ulquiorra/Orihime.)

- Bleach - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - I sat on the fence with this site for awhile again because there wasn't a whole lot here and it wasn't super, super winning me over at first. Oddly enough, it was the log art that finally got me to cave, because it was in that same interesting style that I associate with Ulquiorra/Orihime art. Plus, you know. Orihime is so pretty. I'm so easy for her. By the time I was finished with the site, I'd added a bunch of art to my collection and enough of them had impressed me that I had to. It's a decent-sized, but lovely little site. <3 (Ulquiorra/Orihime, occasionally a little NSFW.)

- Bleach - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - Another site that had me on the fence for awhile because the art does start out a little rough. But what won me over was a couple of things... first, the art improves steadily as the artist goes, you can really just see her getting better and better as you go through the gallery. The second was that there was occasionally a little NSFW-ness with Orihime and I have my weaknesses, okay. By the end of the site, when the artist was getting more into a lighter shade of sepia-esque colored images or stronger uses of her lineart, I was much more won over. All in all, it was a nice site to view this afternoon. (Ulquiorra/Orihime.)

- Bleach - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - Okay, the image of Urahara and Yoruichi flinging themselves onto a long-suffering Kaien that was the first image I saw? I knew I would have to put this site on my list. Not to mention that there's juuuust enough Urahara/Yoruichi to make me happy, even if they're not really the focus of the site. Not that there is a focus, it's a collection of various Shinigami characters (though, Shuuhei is a recurring character and a fair amount of Shuuhei/Renji art that even I had to admit was really pretty) and not a huge site, but decent sized. I had a lot of fun, there's some interesting stuff here. (Some Shuuhei/Renji, some Urahara/Yoruichi, some other Shinigami pairngs, both het and yaoi. Also some gen.)

- Sailor Moon - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - I pretty much knew I was going to be fond of this site when I stumbled over the two images (oekaki, I think?) of the inner/outer groups with the senshi. By the time I got to Endymion with his Generals, I was well and truly sold. It's just... a solid little site with some bright colors and adorable groups and cute details and the various Senshi in different outfits and several adorable pairing illustrations. I came here for the Mamoru/Usagi stuff, of course, but the ones with Chibi-Usa and Helios were adorable, too. Just. It was a delight this afternoon. (Mostly gen, occasional Mamoru/Usagi and other common-ish pairings.)

- Umineko no Naku Koro ni - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - It really did not take me long at all to fall for this site. Pretty much the third illustration that I clicked onto--one of Maria with her scary as hell face on while being lit up by the warm glow of a candle--was enough to win me over. The artist is really good with the warm, burnt reds and golds, the kind of colors I associate with the series, but she's also good at the little details in the images and the soft, glowy kind of feel I like so much. Her Beatrice is especially fabulous, but I love any time she puts Battler and Maria together, they are so adorable. But there's actually a decent selection her as well (there's a Rose illustration that's one of the prettiest I've seen for her), a lot of really cool Ange art as well. It was a really good, well-rounded, pretty site to come across. (No real warnings/pairings. Maybe a smidge of Battler/Beatrice.)

- VOCALOID - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - I didn't plan to rec this site for the VOCALOID art, I just intended to quickly skim through it and then be on my way, after I'd gone through the Bleach section, but then... the first four illustrations really impressed me and kind of deeply charmed me and then I was a goner. I'm weak to lovely Kaito and/or Miku art, I love all the pretty shades of blue and gorgeous hair. And THEN the artist gave me a beautiful one of Luka with her epic hair as well! I wish there'd been a bit more art to the site, but the sketches with Len and Miku helped a lot there, too. <3 (No real warnings/pairings.)
