30 Rock: That Tuesday Morning by ciachick711 - I feel like this fic could have been better formatted, I was never sure when the scene was changing because there were no paragraph breaks or anything. So that did detract a little, along with the almost too-short sentences in the descriptions. But what I really liked about this fic is that the dialogue felt really spot-on to me, I could hear the characters in my head, and it was quirky and funny and did a great job getting the feel of the show down. It, once again, makes me kind of want to get even deeper into the fandom. (Past Floyd/Liz.)
American McGee's Alice/Yu-Gi-Oh!: untitled by actualize - Admittedly, I don't know enough about Yu-Gi-Oh! to catch the references in the crossover, but I do know American McGee's alice and a;sldkjalskj wow this was a gorgeous, gorgeous piece for it. The almost surreal calm about Alice as she has all these violent thoughts, the tone of her language and even her thoughts/narration of this piece are a perfect fit with the creepy, creepy atmosphere that that game made. It's not a long piece, but it's certainly an awesome one. (No warnings/pairings.)
Final Fantasy XII: A Hive Of Scum And Villainy by xahra99 - disordered_mess linked this fic to me and asl;dkjf;lakjs it's been too long since I read any FFXII fic, especially one that had such an interesting take on Fran's first few days around humes. As vaguely uncomfortable as it was to read sometimes, the difficult times she faced because she was so new to their culture and their underhandedness, it was an intriguing piece about how Fran became the kind of person we later saw her to be. I also liked this one a lot because it felt like it actually took place in the FFXII world, between the selling of pelts and the descriptions of Rabanastre, along with Fran's direct POV in the fic and her take on the settings around her. Very nice. (No warnings/pairings.)
Kamen Rider Den-O: untitled actualize - *thoughtful* I was pretty sure that Sakurai-san disappeared and the implication of the series was that Yuuto was to live his own life now, so I'm not sure when/how this is supposed to take place, but setting aside that (because I can just call it AU or whatever and I'm fine with that <3) this was a nice little piece and I love Yuuto so, so much. Trying so hard to look like he doesn't care, but still showing up to make sure things go right and letting Ryoutarou do whatever he wants because it's not like he cares or anything, alsk;djfalksj he totally made Den-O for me. And he's adorable here as well. XD (Some Sakurai-san/Airi, it's only half the point.)
Katekyou Hitman REBORN!: untitled by actualize - a;lsdkfjalskj wow, this is a gorgeous Lancia piece. It's surreal and creepy and beautifully written and it's impossible to tell what really happened and what's just in his mind and I do not blame him one bit for getting nightmares from Mukuro. The hate he has for the kid, the powerlessness he feels against him, the fear that he constantly lives with, the smile that's always on Mukuro's face, it's all beautifully done here. Katekyou Hitman REBORN!: when she stared at the world by trinities - This is a really gorgeous Chrome fic. It's all about the lies and the truths that she lives in, the illusions that are nearly impossible to separate from the realities, the way she and Mukuro are sometimes the same person, the way they're not the same person. It's a little hard to follow along sometimes, but that's perfect for a character like Chrome and the writing of this is really, really lovely. I love how she's so quiet and so passive in some ways, yet that's not really all that makes up who she is. This fic does a really lovely job of getting inside her head, both for her part as one of the Vongola and with her connection to Mukuro, her role as a hero versus not a hero. I'm explaining it badly, so just go read it. XD (This is entirely gen, but if you like Mukuro/Chrome, you may like this.)
Katekyou Hitman REBORN!: Skylark’s Coat by pandarosi - You know, I was just pulling out random links from my pile of to-read fic and apparently fate wanted me to have a Mukuro and/or Chrome day. (Because every day is Hibari day. >__>) But I'm not objecting because this is also a really interesting little fic, it's quiet and doesn't overplay the dynamic between Hibari and Chrome. Mukuro is still a connection between them, the thing that draws Hibari back to her, especially while he's missing from the Millefiore attack, but it's not entirely about him, there's a spark of something just them as well. I liked how calm and almost kind of sad, just a little, that this was. (Hibari/Chrome, implied Mukuro/Chrome, I think?)
Bleach Doujinshi (scanslated) - A Beautiful Blue Sky - [Note: You'll have to scroll down almost to the bottom of this post to find the Bleach doujinshi.] I was actually searching for Tenipuri and Naruto doujinshi, but happened to see a link for a Shunsui/Ukitake doujin and thought, well, what the hell. And I'm really glad I picked this one up because the art style is very nice, it's similar enough to canon to be instantly recognizable, but still has the artist's own style/it's still obviously doujin-like. The story is pretty simple, it's largely pwp but it's also kind of sweet/bittersweet when they talk about how they got together and it's not precisely easy for them, despite that both of them are totally gone on each other. I don't read much Bleach doujin, but this pairing is one that's lovely for it and this was a light little thing, but a nice treat. (Shunsui/Ukitake, NSFW.)
Gintama Doujinshi (scanslated) - Ano Yo de Batsu wo Ukeru Hodo - [Note: This post is locked, but the comm is freely joinable.] So. As soon as I think, "Oh, I have just read too much porn today, no more for awhile.", that's when I see a GinZura doujinshi. And a;sldkfjaslkj okay I take it back, there's still a little porn I need to read today because this was totally fabulous. I love the artist's work, Katsura especially looks fantastic and, while it's a pwp, it's got enough of those great little touches of humor that make it a fantastic read. Katsura thinking about what Gintoki had done earlier, unable to sleep, finally unable to stop his own hand from creeping under his robe, and rolling over to see Gin staring right at him with that usual blank look? a;lsdkfja;lskjlkj I cracked up so hard. Like I could do KakaIru doujinshi recs without hunting down as many of my old favorites as I could find. XD And this one is so, so much love. It's only a little over ten pages long, but the art is just gorgeous, it's one of the most detailed and beautiful things I'd ever seen and one of the reasons KakaIru was such a huge pairing for me. Because the fandom catered to all my kinks--like bathtub sex. The story is pretty simple, it's Iruka's birthday and Kakashi is giving him a "present" and okay. This doujinshi pretty much launches straight into the porn and it's pure pwp, but a fun one. It's not really about much, it's just Kakashi and Iruka in bed and noticing little things about each other and being posessive or being irritated that Kakashi is going for round two (because he's deflecting attention away from serious thoughts, imo) and it's nice for that. I do like the characterization and the little moments between them. But mostly it's about the porno. \o/ (Kakashi/Iruka, NSFW.)
Naruto Doujinshi (scanslated) - Castro - [Note: You'll have to download all five of the doujinshi on this page, but they're not big files, I don't think?] And like I could let this set of recs go by without something from Sannasubi, whom I have great affection for. I think I read nearly all of her doujinshi at some point, because they're just... somehow really addicting. I think it's partly that they go really fast, you can just zip right on through them, but they're also satisfying and she often does some really pretty stuff with the characters. This one is total gag doujin, though, it's all about Kakashi being a TOTAL FREAK (and probably on purpose, too XD) and Iruka trying to make sense of him and eventually just giving up. I totally laughed and/or grinned my entire way through this one. XD (Kakashi/Iruka, probably NSFW.)
Naruto Doujinshi (scanslated) - Gin Neko - [Note: You'll have to download all five of the doujinshi on this page, but they're not big files, I don't think?] This is another one that I couldn't let go by, as along as I was doing KakaIru doujin recs again. Of course Dragonfly chose a lot of really pretty doujinshi to work on, so these are all pretty high quality, but that doesn't mean that each one of them isn't delightful in its own way. This one is a simple story, but what I really like about it, setting aside the whole obvious parallel, is that it reminds us that Iruka has his issues as well, that he was not all that perfect as a kid, either, and it explains a bit about his relationship with Kakashi. (Well. It potentially could anyway.) The art is very detailed and while some panels didn't 100% work for me, there were other pages that were just lovely and I think the extra sketch on the free talk page, where Kakashi is kissing Iruka in his lap, is one of the prettiest things ever. Prince of Tennis Doujinshi (scanslated) - Neo Venus 1 - Akira Hojo is another doujinshika that is most likely an acquired taste, her art might not impress on first look at it, but it eventually grew on me, at least. The art is very sharp, possibly a little too sharp (though, I like her color art a lot), but she also puts in a lot of detail in the backgrounds and her close-up panels tend to be really kind of great. What you really read Akira Hojo doujin for, though, are the stories. The things that aren't said because they don't have to be, the tension that is an undercurrent through everything in the storyline, the subtle quality that this pairing has. You read her stories because they're more serious, they're not always happy all the time, because they're kind of painful at times. Like, when Fuji keeps saying to Tezuka that he likes him, but even in the middle of sex, he knows that he's not the reason Tezuka is staying and that this is an end for them. a;slkdjfalkjs as much as I want to go, "OMG YOU FIX IT RIGHT NOW, MISSY" at the doujinshika, I have to love the way she can do an intense scene. Prince of Tennis Doujinshi (scanslated) - Neo Venus 2 - [Note: This is a sequel to Neo Venus 1 and will not make much sense without having read that one first.] What I said about Neo Venus 1 continues with the second part here--it might not be the style that'll work for everyone and I can't say I'd blame people for not caring for the art (even if I'll semi-defend its merits by pointing out the level of detail and that it fits the story being told, which I think is important XD), but the story is deliciously angsty and bittersweet without being too emo tragic. It's a really difficult line to walk, but Akira Hojo is a master of it. Fuji is now settling in at Hyoutei, but is still off-balance and I love the insights we get into his character, the painful realizations, the wistful thoughts, the flares of anger.
One of the best scenes in this doujinshi is when Fuji goes to see him at school and calls him on how Tezuka always fits other people into the mold he wants them to be in, which is incredibly egotistical of him in a way. And asd;lfkjaslkj yes that is one of my favorite things about Tezuka and his flaws. I went on about that a lot during my time in the fandom, that he didn't consider other people's feelings, he just went right ahead and molded them into what he wanted and it was kind of a real character flaw and made him all the more interesting to me. I wish more people had picked up on that in fandom, because it was interesting--that part of Tezuka's inescapable control on the situation around him was actually kind of unfair. Sure, ultimately, it turned out well, the people did want to become better tennis players, Ryoma did want that fire lit under him to come to love tennis for its own sake. But Tezuka never asked, he just steamrolled right over them. ....and this is one of the other reasons I love Akira Hojo's doujinshi, because it gets me going like this. *__* (Tezuka/Fuji.)
Prince of Tennis Doujinshi (scanslated) - Neo Venus 3 - [Note: This is the third part in a series and will not make much sense without having read the first two.] And, again, I love Akira Hojo's doujinshi. Everything I said about the other two applies here as well just as much as ever, because I really love these characters and I love her take on them, love her take on the subtle, hidden meanings in everything they say and don't say. Hell, I even love that this doujinshi caused the translators to stick in an extra note about how hellish it was to translate this (they did a gorgeous, gorgeous job of it, though). I loved the resolution of this, it wasn't a fluffy happy ending, but it was satisfying and very much what my shipper heart wanted. Plus. Omg, I think there was an implication of Tezuka <-- Atobe? It's-- It's like she's in my head and writing the doujinshi I would write! Because yes. Especially the way Atobe was just as brilliant as the two of them and was insightful enough to see his role in this and a;sdlkfja;lskj the thoughts in his head aslkjalksj holy crap I love Atobe Keigo A WHOLE LOT, too. While these doujinshi are for the Tezuka/Fuji fans, as someone who loves Atobe and TezuAto with a burning passion, that just made these doujinshi even better. They might not be for everyone, but I cannot keyboard mash over them enough. (Tezuka/Fuji.)

Prince of Tennis Doujinshi (scanslated) - Neo Venus 3 - [Note: This is the third part in a series and will not make much sense without having read the first two.] And, again, I love Akira Hojo's doujinshi. Everything I said about the other two applies here as well just as much as ever, because I really love these characters and I love her take on them, love her take on the subtle, hidden meanings in everything they say and don't say. Hell, I even love that this doujinshi caused the translators to stick in an extra note about how hellish it was to translate this (they did a gorgeous, gorgeous job of it, though). I loved the resolution of this, it wasn't a fluffy happy ending, but it was satisfying and very much what my shipper heart wanted. Plus. Omg, I think there was an implication of Tezuka <-- Atobe? It's-- It's like she's in my head and writing the doujinshi I would write! Because yes. Especially the way Atobe was just as brilliant as the two of them and was insightful enough to see his role in this and a;sdlkfja;lskj the thoughts in his head aslkjalksj holy crap I love Atobe Keigo A WHOLE LOT, too. While these doujinshi are for the Tezuka/Fuji fans, as someone who loves Atobe and TezuAto with a burning passion, that just made these doujinshi even better. They might not be for everyone, but I cannot keyboard mash over them enough. (Tezuka/Fuji.)
