Speaking of
my last trip to Sicily, here's the talking about the food that I promised you ;D
First of all, a few words about the richness of this land.
I've never seen so many tangerine and orange trees in my life, such a luxurious vegetation--SUCH A LOVELY FRAGRANCE EVERYWHERE ;_;
Olives are also a must there, so whenever you have the chance, please enjoy the delicious oil native of those lands. You may realize how the location makes the difference.
Another charming discover was the one about the Sicilian vine variety. We easily became fans of the
Inzolia, a local grape planted by the slopes of Mount Etna. Very sharp and dry, perfect for fish dishes :D !
But let's start with the goodies!
First stop of our culinary trip,
this little restaurant.
I picked a delicious
caponata, something which was I really looking forward too!
I hate eggplants, but this is one of the few dishes from where I can eat them happily XD
For second course I picked some delicious involtini. It was just veal wrapped around a sauce of crumb and cheese, but it was delicious *_*
On our way to Agrigento we got to stop to
this restaurant for lunch.
Here I had the most delicious squid ink pasta T^T !!
The sauce was enriched with all kind of seafood and everything was so tasty!! I can't believe it T^T
Next, I had my lovely involtini again, but this time instead of veal they were wrapped in swordfish. Delicious.
--Closing the deal with some dessert XD
Next meal,
this restaurant, where I really ate like a freaking pig ._.
I had the chance to finally try the famous pasta alla Norma, a famous Sicilian pasta dish, featuring ricotta and eggplants-- Again, delicious (and such a huge portion >o< !!)
Next, I decided to try some roast fish (?)-- It was the first time in my life that I ate so much fish in one course XD
After that huge lunch I had no strenght to face a proper dinner-- I just munched at an
arancina that wasn't such a great thing (probably because I wasn't hungry at all XD)
On our way to Palermo, we stopped to have a random lunch at some
autogrill, where I had some delicious fresh ricotta and grilled veggies :3
As a dessert we presented ourself some tiny
cannoli-- It's a shame that we had no chance to try some more "typical" version!
Our first proper meal in Palermo was in
this restaurant, that honestly looked all kind of shady in all kind of shady neighbourhood XD
But we made sure to act like proper Romans, glaring at everyone and asking for directions in quite the demanding way, so we had no troubles x'D and the food was superlative!
My pick for dinner was this huge, delicious, fried squid in a orange sauce:
--It tasted like heaven ._.
Quite full and happy I just indulged myself in a delicious dessert: almond ice cream covered with dark chocolate sauce-- HEAVENLY.
The day after, we went to
this restaurant for lunch.
I started with a nice set of appetizers-- bruschetta with fonduta cheese, arancine with cheese and courgette flowers ♥ fried sandwiches with spinaches and cheese-- GOOOOOD.
Finally, I managed to eat the popular pasta con le sarde! It was shockingly good and SWEET! I wasn't expecting fish to taste so nicely XD
To close my meal, another chance to get a dessert XD
THIS WAS DELICIOUS. A little cake of orange and pistachio cream with pistachio grains and dark chocolate sauce... JUST DELICIOUS!!
For dinner we just picked
a random place for some light meal-- Obvious wherever you go in Sicily you're assured to eat magnificently T^T ♥
I had some meat with
Marsala sauce and French fries :D
I found it a bit watery, to be honest, but I just sopped up the French fries in the extra sauce and that really hit the spot!
My mother had some pizza here and she said that it was delicious too (and I confirm, as I stole her some :9)
--And that's it!
Damn, thinking about all that nice food, I got hungry again >3> ...
