First of all, yesterday evening I managed to upload my last artworks of Nobu on
DeviantArt-- I tried to do the same on
Pixiv, but I kept getting an error, so I managed to upload only one ToT HOW FRUSTRATING--!
Anyway, the real deal with this post is to share my experience during a visit to
Palazzo Doria Pamphilj, one of the residences of the noble families of Rome.
This was, to tell the truth, a visit born from a misfortune, as
the museum that me and my cousin wanted to visit was closed for "technical problems" D':
As we were there anyway and it was a pity to go back home and accept our touristic failure, we decided to visit something else.
My cousin: "Let's go to the Museum of Modern Art!"
Dae: "NOT AGAIN! We end up there everytime that we are together D'x !"
My cousin: "--What about Galleria Borghese?"
Dae: "We visited that already, didn't we? We're in freakin' Rome, there are a thousand places to see, let's go somewhere new D: !!"
Since to get to Villa Helene I walked across Via del Corso, and I noticed that the palace was open, I suggested to go to Palazzo Doria Pamphilj, and it was a lovely experience ;_; !
Taking pictures was forbidden inside, but I still managed to take a few pictures around (mostly because I didn't know that it was forbidden yet XD)-- But to give you guys a reason to cringe your teeth, I left Caravaggio, Velazquez & Co. alone XD
The audioguide was included into the price of the ticket (a not-so-cheap 11 euros, but considering that for the same price I visited the Ara Pacis alone--) and it was kinda surprising to hear the voice of prince Johnathan describing the place, his family issues back then and sharing some curiosities about the whole thing.
It was a bit disturbing to see that an explanation wasn't offered for the most of the paintings... Sure, explaning all of them would take a whole week, but a few words on many pieces from great artists of the past would have been appreciated (and due).
It was also worth noting that the whole place was kinda oppressive... I mean, that kind of "oppression" is typical of Baroque style, but sure it wasn't the best place to visit on a scorching day of August XD I mean... All those precious velvets and brocades everywhere!!! How could they survive on summer ;o; ?!
So, long story short-- It was really a nice visit, even if there are more impressive and popular villas and palaces to visit, two comfy hours spent here were definitely worth the little bother of such a long walk to reach it from our original location ^^
PS: As the voice of the prince, with his charming British accent, "intrigued" me a lot, I took a little research on the intraweb... It ended up that the prince is married and --GAY!
I was devasted and amused and the same time XD !
