Romics 2014 (Spring Edition) Report - Day #1

Apr 04, 2014 17:52

Guys, I'm exhausted XD But I need to talk about yesterday, when I attended the first day of Romics, a convention here in Rome (in case it's not obvious enough XD):

This time I decided to go on the first day, a placid Thursday, 'cause I'm really sick of going to such conventions for just one day and to meet with friends or cosplay-- I mean, it's all good stuff, but I barely manage to take a look at the stands like this!
So for this edition I decided to go for two days: the first for the shopping and the last (Sunday) for friends, cosplay and events.

Long story short, IT'S BEEN AWESOME *_*
There was very few people so I could walk around, breath (!!), search for stuff and talk with the dealers as throughly as required *.*
I also took lots of pictures, checked some exhibitions and did some reasonable shopping, so I just stop blabbing and present you a proper, detailed report of the day!

THE EVENTS AND EXHIBITIONS

Since it was the first day, a mere Thursday, the place was pretty much deserted, and there weren't many interesting conferences planned for the day, but I still enjoyed myself :D

The stands of the Embassy of Japan and The Institute of Japanese Culture organized origami and yukata workshops:

I wasn't amused by the idea of wearing a yukata right there, so I just took pictures and looked around. I got all the touristic pamphlets that I could for my next trips to Japan XD

There was also the usual stand of the Go Club of Rome, that's always pretty popular:

Next were the exhibitions!
There was one dedicated to the 75th Anniversary of Batman:

Another about Jae Lee, a special guest from the universe of DC Comics:

Looks like this author wrote a prequel dedicated to Ozymandias, a character from The Watchmen-- I recently watched the movie and I must say that I was charmed by that guy! I must investigate!
Also if I don't really need another fandom of this kind XD

There was also another tiny exhibition dedicated to Barry Purves, a master of stop-motion:

I was intrigued by this picture! There were no descriptions here, so I had no idea of what it was-- I investigated, and apparently it's from "Screen Play", an adaptation of "The Willow Pattern" in a sort of kabuki version-- COOL! --I must investigate (2)!

The next exhibition was dedicated to a Japanese photographer, Naoya Yamaguchi:

I was really interested in this, so I left it for last :D
I'm showing some of the pictures that I liked the most:

The title of the exhibition is "The Japonism" and the author focuses on the elements that constitute Japanese culture. It was weird to note that the 90% of the subjects of his pictures were concubines or courtesans x'D

THE MERCHANDISING
And then-- Time to check the stands!!
Again, I had a tiny wishlist, but at least this time I could look at everything accurately :D And, of course, taking pictures!

Microbes and Cells! I love this stuff XD

I love this stand!!! So many cute, weird thingies *_*

I took a flyer, you can find their stuff on MonsterDolls.it

There was also a lot of vintage stuff!

--I just LOVE looking at this stuff *_*

On the "new stuff" department I found the Levi and Rei that are on my wishlist:

But they were a bit too expensive, so I carried on with my original wishlist.

On the random department:

ò_o;

Also, I'll never understand all the fuss for these guys ò_o

--Never.

There were some shop selling hand-made thingies of sort--

This girl was helding a cosplay workshop for some amatorial magazine ^^

Then, on the actual fandom merchandising:

Another interesting find was this book dedicated to collector's editions of Japanese mechas:

I was tempted to buy it, but the problems with these guides is that you start to long for the stuff in there, and it may be a problem in my case XD

THE COSPLAYS
Now, the cosplays!

On Thursday there aren't many cosplayers around (the most of them come out on Sunday, the last day, because of contests and more people), but I still managed to find some interesting characters :DDD

--Let's see if you know them all:

The guys are cosplaying, in case you don't know: Caesar Antonio Zeppeli and Leone Abbacchio from JoJo series (2nd & 5th), Shizuo and Izaya from Durarara!, Madara and Sasuke from Naruto and finally Ryuko from Kill la Kill--

Besides the cosplayers, there were the usual "sets" in the Event area:

--There were also those dedicated to zombie apocalypses, vampires and Batman, but you know those already XD
On the last pic you can see your Dae with an Iron Throne and a Lannister-- I was just missing a glass of wine XD !

THE FOOD∼
Last but not least, the food!
This time I could bring a lunch from home, but it was still interesting looking at the culinary choices of the convention.
Of course the most stands were dedicated to Japanese food. Besides the usual instant ramen crap and sushi bar, I want to show you the stand dedicated to Japanese sweets and to onigiri:

The onigiri shop was quite nice, they even set up a cute "pic-nic" area!

But the stands with the most people, were still the Italian ones XD
Here you go with porchetta sandwiches and Sicilian Arancini *_* !!

Next time I have definitely to try the stuff of this last stand!! Fried snacks!! *drools*

There was also a great deal with waffles and stuff wrapped in chocolate :o I'm not a fan of sweet things so I didn't pay much attention to them XD

MY SHOPPING
And well, in the end here's my not-so-impressive booty XD

I bought some manga that I wished for at a very cheap price and gathered some touristic pamphlet for my next trip to Japan XD
I couldn't find the missing manga volumes on my wishlist, though T_T;

And that's all! I hope that you enjoyed a nice, detailed report of a Romics edition after a while XD !
