The floating (?) world of doujinshi--
I'm making this post to let you know about a thing that perplexes me about some of my favourite doujinka!
There are many ways to make a loyal supporter of a circle sad: switching OTP, switching fandom... but when they start to do this, I'm not really sure about what to think:
These are two books released by my beloved COLTPYTHON (here's her website!)... I started to follow her because she draws (fortunately she still does!) some of the best Kiyoshi/Hyuga around, but when the Free! fever exploded she decided to jump on the bandwagon with-- Makoto/Rei ò_o
Ok that Makoto is adorable and he pretty much fits everyone (just like Kiyoshi!), but even if they had some cute moments, this is one of the less probable Free! pairings D: !!
I see what she did there: she picked the characters that mostly reminded her of her Kurobasu OTP. After all the characters are practically the same and even act the same in her books... And it kinda bothers me a bit, it's too forced, to have a responsive Rei acting like a tsundere Hyuga D:
Another example of this tendency can be seen in another favourite of mine, Poca (website here!):
I started to follow her religiously back in the days for her StarDriver doujinshi, since she was one of the few artists who produced delicious Reiji/Sugata, and exactly the kind I love... Recently she switched to Kurobasu too, with Murasakibara/Kuroko doujinshi.
If I can understand from where Makoto/Rei comes from, this one leaves me speechless... Because, besides the fact that they share the same hair colours, this pairing has nothing to do with Reiji/Sugata, but most importantly IT MAKES NO SENSE AT ALL!!!
My impression here is that now that the StarDriver fandom is dying off, she just picked a popular series and then picked a pairing that reminded her of her original StarDriver OTP... The fun fact is that she REALLY came to like it now, and all her books are based on this pairing.
I mean, I can understand that one loves and draws whatever they like, and maybe I'm the one who's seeing too much behind this, but does it make sense to support a pairing only because it LOOKS like one of your favourites..?
Does it ever happen to you, to find such similarities in your OTPs? Share your thoughts and distract me from the fact that I'll never read Reiji/Sugata again from Poca-chan T_T; ..!
