October's Manga Chat!

Oct 24, 2013 12:23

Let's return to the good ol' traditions, here's the monthly chat about my paper-ish purchases on the manga world :3

Yesterday I went to my comic-shop and bought these thingies.
As Jojolion #2 was waiting me there since for ever, both Sidooh #21 and the Gundam -THE ORIGINS- databook #2 were just freshly delivered.

Well, I won't talk much about Jojolion 'cause I read that already on scans XD But for the next volumes I'll be good and buy the actual comics and comment them "live". --If just the releases would be faster T_T;
Anyway, this is the volume where we got to see "the true Kira".

Pretty boy indeed *_* It's a pity he's already dead, LOL. I hope to see him popping out again in some flashback ;_;
...Meanwhile I'll fantasize about him and Oujiro and him and Jousuke LOL ♥

Now, onto Sidooh.
I love this series and knowing that it's about to end fills me with AWE! more than sadness, 'cause I really want to see how the author will end the adventures of the two Yukimura brothers.
In this volume we saw the death of Riyan in an attempt to save his "father", Saigo Takamori, from the vicious Rugi, who's suspecting his betrayal with the guys from Aizu.
I must confess that I don't know much about that Japanese historical period, I tried to get something out of it from Wikipedia but it's really a lot of shit to figure out and put in the right places... But even with my limited knowledge, I can tell that Takahashi here is pulling some serious shit here (in a good sense x'D)!

As I said, the most important part (well, besides the start of the Boshin War XD) was the death of Riyan and how it placed Saigo in a difficult situation.
I loved this moment here, were both father and son were realizing that one of them had to die to save the other, and that it was Riyan duty, even if dying before his father is indeed despicable for a son.
The fujoshi in me is also smitten with their "special" relationship... They sure abuse of the word "love" when they talk about each other-- IFYOUKNOWWHATIMEAN.

Another thing I'm smitten with, is the design of Tokugawa Yoshinobu:

I love how Takahashi is subtly "cheering" for the "bad guys"-- Or maybe it's just my impression XD ?
Surely the difference between the Shogunate faction compared to the Imperial faction, is that the first one, paradoxally, is way naiver and "purer". They seem to act for actual idealistic reasons, more than for mere power struggles... Even Yoshinobu's decision to give back political power back to the Emperor is an important detail in this sense.
So, the Tokugawa guys are always portrayed as pretty, romantic boys. It's the case for Yoshinobu, and it was so for the delicate Iemochi.

...Now sure it's difficult to talk about Gundam x'D
So to break the ice, here you go with a shining pic of Char at his best!

I can't believe how precious these booklets are.
In this volume there's a juicy interview with Yasuhiko Yoshikazu, where he talks a lot about the characters' background that he developed.
He talks about my favourite guys, the Zabi family, defining each character's personalities (he thinks that Degwin is a nice guy LOL, and so are both Dozle and Sasro, where Gihren and Kycilia are the two powerbitches XD) and he also talks about the deal with Char's mommy complex.
Since he found weird that in the anime his revenge was so passionately childish, assuming that Char was quite the smart chap, Yas decided to give him a trauma over his mother's death, more than over his father's.
Char is identifying the Zabi as the guys who forced his mother's imprisonement and death then, the guys who disrupted their family, more than the instigators of Zeon's death (in fact Yas himself says that in his manga Zeon dies of a heart attack-- there was no conspiracy against him from the Zabi's!).
This would explain that horrible "Lalah is my mom!" shit in the manga's final.
I'm glad that I got to read this interview, 'cause as I found Char's complex hominous, after this explanation it makes a bit of sense.

After tones of characters profiles and mecha stuff, the volume ends with another short story set in 0057, the date of Char's birth ^^
I want to share some pics of the young Zabi's 'cause ASASDFGDFG:

The young Dozle is portrayed as a rightful banchou. OMG, I LOVE IT x'DDDD

Here's Degwin and a lovely Kycilia as a kid ;3; Now I see from where those fanarts on pixiv came from ;_; <3
It's interesting to notice that Kycilia was already smarter than Dozle x'D She rushed to the university to see if her dad was all right during the Feds attack ;_; <3

Here are Sasro and Gihren as young men!
I'm extremely amazed by how young Gihren looks like my beloved Gato, so here you have a closer shot of his pretty butt:

And that's all from the manga department for today!
See you again next month, 'cause the last volume of Mugen no Juunin will be released, FINALLY!
