--Sorry for late, but I was distracted by Fate/Zero (;___;!!!) and Kuroko (*___*!!!) new episodes...
Anyway, finally the reviews of the last volumes (of the first part!) of this adorable series about grappling during Roman ages :D
So, after the fight against Emden in the previous volume, Cestus has to deal with the recovery from the various wounds of his body.
Emden, on the other side, is forced to leave the arena because of this shameful defeat; before leaving, though, Zafar goes to meet him to ask him something about a dangerous technicque that Emden used against Cestus: apparently both men were taught mortal techniques by the same man, a certain Democritus.
Apparently this mysterious man travels the world looking for young fighters and uses them as a "specimen" to learn about new ways to improve their bodies and skills to turn them into "lethal weapons"...
As Sabina's mother scolds her daughter because she's not picking any of the men who asked to marry her (she'd like to marry someone like Nero, LOL!), our heroes are leaving Pompeii after Radok made sure to win all his remaining fights, leaving a wonderful impression on the audience.
The next chapter is a little dissertation about the election of Emperor Claudius.
As you know, he was enthroned as the new Emperor from the Pretorian Guards after they killed the previous Emperor, Caligola.
It was a scary event that showed how strong the military power was in Rome.
Right now, the same role of "protection" and legitimation of the Emperor was covered by people like Demetrius, as "Imperial Guards".
With people like him guarding his back, Nero can dare to act a little daring towards the senators and impose his points of view: the guys are discussiong about the recent troubles with the province of Armenia, and Nero would like to deal with the issue diplomatically.
Is he underestimating these enemies..?
Meanwhile Lusca and Octavia keep their stupid romantic crap.
Octavia is obviously in love with Lusca, but Lusca is still unaware of his own feelings.
Unfortunately for him, the Empress Agrippina and his vice-commander are not: Draisen makes sure that Lusca realizes his position and Octavia's, but the mother of the Emperor, despite the huge mess whirling around her house, decides to call Lusca for further clarifications...
It's an ordeal!!
Are you smexing Octavia, Lusca? If you're not, try to get the glasses that are not poisoned!
--So, wanna know Lusca's strategy?
He just takes a random glass and drinks out of it!
Agrippina realizes Lusca's loyalty and excuses herself-- In reality none of the glasses was poisoned, but Agrippina wanted to make sure of Lusca's attitude towards the Imperial house...
So, remember the Armenians that Nero wanted to deal with?
A delegation is in Rome and things are not going to so well ^_^;
As the huge machine of reciprocal spionage started between the top warriors of Rome and Armenia, Agrippina, exasperated by Nero's need of independence, decides to makes an interesting proposal to Britannicus, the younger brother of Octavia...
And as Nero decides to deal with the Armenian issue, one of the ambassadors comes with an interesting idea for a "souvenir"-- What about a "match" of the Imperial Guards against the Armenian selected army, the Immortals..?
Nero accepts out of pride, and everyone in Demetrius' team look forward to it!
And from here on, it's time to put the guys of the Imperial Guard in the spotlight!
The first figher is Cassandra :3 !
She's skilled and flexible, but her strenght is within a peculiar "power" that allows her to "sense" the aggressivity in her enemies: this way she can "read" the moves of her opponent and think of an effective counterattack!
So, her enemy is KO in a few pages.
Next one is delicious bishie Adonis x3 !
Because of his pretty face and feminine features he's usually underestimated, but his fast body and reactions make of him a lethal opponent and granted him the nickname "The Son of Hermes".
He defeats not one opponent, but two in a row ^_^;
There's a small break where Adonis realizes that his wrist is hurt and warns Lusca about the strenght of these guys; in fact, after a quick drink is finally time for Lusca to face his first opponent.
As you can tell, Lusca easily defeat his first opponent, and as for Adonis, he has to face another one but-- Suddenly he feels sick..?
--THERE WAS A SEDATIVE IN HIS DRINK ;o; ?!!!
So, Lusca has to face another deadly situation because of Agrippina, and as his body is about to immobilize completely, he has a spark of ferociousness and reacts in the only possible way:
--And he manages to defeat his opponent!
As Lusca tries to hide the fact that Agrippina was the one who attempted to kill him, the warriors get to know that after the defeat the Immortals committed suicide because of the shame and dishonor é_è
Cassandra is mortified about it-- She swore that she'll never forget her opponents.
...But as the guys that managed to take part in the matches heal their wounds, the older members are ready to kick the asses of the Armenian delegation because the most of them are discovered to be spies who are plotting against the central government!
Besides the always cute Daidalos, it's time to see good old Solleon shine too.
And, of course, Demetrius takes care of the bigger guy XD
--As Apollonius makes sure to give one of his "special treatments" to the trecherous ambassador ;D
So, as Nero is momentarily free of worries, a huge mess is ready for him.
Agrippina decides to support Britannico as the new emperor, and Nero feels threatened by it.
So what..?
..Faithful to his mother's shenanigans, he decides to poison him during a banquet.
As stupid Octavia goes into a shock (so the author has an excuse to finally throw her in Lusca's arms =_ =) and both Demetrius and Agrippina realize what's happening to Nero, we finally return on Cestus' whereabouts to see him working in the making of a new road for the Empire.
But there's not just hard-working in his future: a messanger comes to tell that Cestus has been selected to take part into a tournament promoted by Nero--
By now Cestus is barely 15, and knows nothing about life or love, but maybe he has a chance to gain freedom, at last?
--And here ends the first part of this series >3
