Episode 00: Accidental Lessons
CHARACTERS: UMIKA KAWASHIMA as ERIKA
KEITO OKAMOTO as MAMORU
INT. ERIKA'S HOUSEHOLD - AFTERNOON
Erika stands where the kitchen and the small archway to the second floor stairs connect. The house is silent save for the swaying chimes near the kitchen window and the low murmur of the radio that is now reporting the late afternoon news.
ERIKA leans on the door frame as she looks up to her new-- never mind what to call him-- her mother does not believe in labels.
ERIKA
You're staying for dinner right?
MAMORU looks at her with the same gloomy expression he had on since ERIKA and her mother picked him up from the airport. From over two weeks ago.
He answers her in his slightly accented English.
MAMORU
Do I have a choice?
ERIKA turns around and takes a deep breath.
ERIKA
Can you get off your high-horse, your royal highness.
ERIKA rolls her eyes and says in sarcasm:
ERIKA
Okay, let me rephrase that. Mamoru-sama, what would you prefer to have for dinner and for would you oh-so-kindly forgive me for not having Moroccan tea for your midnight snacks.
MAMORU scoffs.
MAMORU
You're getting better at this Erika-chan. I might consider employing you permanently.
MAMORU stands up and stretches. With a sheepish grin on his face he walks towards ERIKA and inches his face closer to hers.
MAMORU
Now to answer your question...
He leans closer-- close enough that Erika backs up against the refrigerator, disturbing the pastries and salt and pepper shaker magnets.
ERIKA
M-Mamoru-kun...w-what
MAMORU reaches for the wooden spatula resting on the counter behind her. He grins down at her and teasingly points at the tip of her nose.
He smiles as he dips the spatula on the curry she's cooking, the tip of his tongue playing on his lips as he tastes it.
MAMORU
Chef, this is really bad.
