One of my biggest peves lately is the massive amounts of viagra & co. ads on TV. Honestly, it's enough to make a guy who (as far as I know) is functioning correctly to think that maybe he needs a drug. You can't watch the evening news without seeing six or seven times attractive women talking about how much they like viagra. And the men in the ads don't look more than 30. It's being marketed as a sex-enhancement drug, kind of like those herbal suplements that get those half hour ads at 1:30 in the morning.
TV already makes people feel like they don't get enough sex, now it's making us feel like the sex we're having must not be as enjoyable as it is for those on medication.
Why oh why do things have to be so f***ed up (heh, excuse the pun) regarding sex? You know, it's funny, thinking about abstinance in the context of this editorial, it seems like what it really is is a control mechanism, as are many other attitudes/medical 'conditions' regarding sex. In other words, only have sex when it's appropriate, as prescribed by your physician. When big brother gives you your five minutes of hate, you'd better use it.
Man, this is getting too depressing for a Saturday morning.
You are so right, Mr. Munk. Imagine all the messages young people (especially women) get-- It's sad and scary. But I liked the Goodman editorial; she manages to keep it light. Canadian found a good one, too.
