What a way to end the day!

I was waiting for the tram home on Saturday night on the corner of Brunswick street and Victoria parade.

2 young men banged on the back of the shelter and then came round to my side. One of them sat next to me, and the other stood in front.

They asked for money, and I said I didn't have any, sorry.
The one sitting next to me put me in a headlock while the other one broke my nose with a coke bottle.

I stood up and they asked me to empty out my pockets.
I gave them my wallet and diary.

They took the flexicard out of my wallet and asked me how much money was in there.
I told them $100 and they said I would take them to an ATM and they would take my money. I said "okay, but I'm just a student". They said they would stab me otherwise. I said "okay".

We started walking along the platform, past a couple of other people who were staring at us and dialling 000 on their mobiles under their jackets etc.

We got to the end of the platform and I paused, pretending that I was going to throw up because I had "had a few too many beers tonight fellas". Meanwhile I was frantically trying to think of something that would mean I didn't have to leave the platform with them.

Before I knew what was happening, I had punched one of them (in the ear I think) as hard as I could.

I don't think it was a very good punch (I didn't really know how to do it, to be honest and my hand doesn't hurt), but for a split second I felt a surge of manly potency and made a strange kind of primal yelp that really wasn't very threatening. The one I had hit stumbled for a few steps (more out of surprise than anything) then the other one decked me with his coke bottle or fist and they both ran off down Brunswick street.

I scrambled up and (this is embarassing) took off running randomly about the platform yelling "Help, somebody please help!".

After a few seconds I calmed down and some people came up and told me they'd called the cops etc. A tram pulled up and the driver got out and asked if I was allright.

Then a nice lady walked me to St Vincent's to get cleaned up.

It was all pretty scary, but I'm very lucky really.

Now I just want to get a copy of the surveillance footage so I can see what a woosey puncher I am!
