Frustration.

Well, I have been away from Comcast (TV, not internet) for almost a year now. It's been great! DirecTV has been so much easier to deal with and the service has suffered fewer interruptions than Comcrap. Things were fine until this recent cold snap during which we have seen sub-zero temperatures and our dish froze up; there was ice and snow accumulated on it.

DirecTV decided to lower costs by omitting an off-air tuner from the latest iteration of its HD-DVR box. Leaving this tuner out means the cost is about $100 less than previous iterations but it means that customers cannot receive signals from an off-air (terrestrial) antenna using their DirecTV receiver. Now, this is fine for the majority of markets but for my market, it means I do not receive my locals in HD. Yes, I have been without locals in HD for almost a year now, but the service is STILL better than Comcrap.

Right, so cut to this week when I finally got around to ordering DTV's off-air tuner which integrates with my DTV receiver. I have a Big Ass Antenna™ installed, but no line running down from it. Does that mean it's not really installed? Well, it should be easy to fix but it means having to go out in sub-zero temps to do fine dexterity-type work. My fingers are not nearly nimble enough to begin with but with such biting cold, I either have Fingers of the Dead or gloved fingers. Fortunately, Gary will be coming over on Sunday and we will get the line connected (assuming it's still connected to the antenna and not just dangling loose with nothing on the other end. We'll have to cap two lines and run one of them to a diplexer which is connected to line(s) in the house. It's really simply, just really frustrating. I should be up and running with HD locals and all the subchannels I could ever want. Oh well, Sunday's not that far off, is it...?
