If I was more knowledgeable in the field of bluegrass I could probably pick a far more "legitimate" or "authentic" track, but what can I say? I adore the film, with all of it's stylised, depression era charm, and this song captures those feelings perfectly in musical form. Dan Tyminski's vocal (mimed to perfection by George Clooney in the film) is a real treat, world-weary but packing a wallop nonetheless. It's simultaneously wistful and gleefully rambunctious, and I just about find it impossible to play it without bopping about and singing along.

Broken Social Scene - "Almost Crimes"

Released in 2003.

There's a fine art to writing and recording a fast, loose, raucous indie-rock anthem - it's something that so many bands aim for and miss completely - but with "Almost Crimes" Broken Social Scene absolutely nailed it. To be honest, this is the only thing the group have ever done that I really love, but it's enough of an achievement all on its own that I'm happy to bestow major kudos upon them. The fierce guitar lines and killer double vocal continuously keep the song's energetic vibes and feelings of slightly unsettled edginess way up high, making it an adrenaline pumping winner.
