After the superhectic day on Thursday, Friday was just totally relaxing. Went for a walk with Clare around Manchester, and made a playlist for the party... Also (sortof!) helped with making a Matrix-themed cake for Pete...
Huge amounts of food and beer were brought for Saturday's
housewarming. Plus a large metal barbecue. It was a really great success, and loads of people dropped in. We had
jezmyers's Midget and Giant playing, plus a few others, and me.
jeffthelion turned up to join in the festivities! And there was loads and loads of food. The PA was on till 6AM. Neighbours didn't complain. This is slightly perplexing. We'll take them round some chocolates and stuff soon I think.
Sunday was the inevitable cleanup. Clare left around lunchtime... It was a really brilliant long weekend with her... combination of relaxation and mad party helped me recover from hectic trekking round England the week before! I like Clare a lot. Obviously...
Sunday evening we watched a film in the new house... it's become something of a tradition...
Monday I gigged at Joshua Brookes. Si Cliffe, singer-songwriter I've met whilst gigging near Brum, was there on my recommendation. He played some songs even gave me a lift back to Withington.
Tuesday I worked round at Ian's during the day, then did another episode of
the radio show, featuring some of Ian's music collection, before heading to a meeting in B-Lounge, interestingly entitled The Geekup.
Bright and early Wednesday I jumped on the train to Somerset. Worked at Merricks publishing in afternoon. We created a
rather large skipfull of magazines. Alex was home too - prior to heading to Glade festival. Whole family went out for a very extravagant meal in a rural
restaurant. It was good. We talked about drugs and big brother. The four of us polished off two bottles of wine. When we got home and M&D had headed off to bed, our old mate
Tash and friend Chrissie
dropped in to say hello. They had just come back from Exit festival in Serbia. It sounds amazing. I am very envious.
Also that evening, Charlie ate a
whole pillow.
Work again next day. I am single-handedly overhauling Merricks Publishing's entire database system. Optimistic of me, but I think it's working. Went to pub with workmates Jason, Harry and Nick. The "Halfway House" in Pitney is lovely and rural. Got home to find my best mates Joe and Tash were here. Together with some cider and huge amounts of
spaghetti bolognese cooked by Joe. At this point I texted Harry, who'd given me a lift back from pub, and he came round and tucked in too.
After they left, Joe and I went for a walk on the ridge, like good old days. Rather than crashing on our floor, Joe took to the woods and stayed there all night... as is his wont. It was good to catch up though.
Today I cycled into work at 8.30am. Then worked non-stop 12 hours on my "amazing new system that will revolutionise the whole of merricks publishing (tm)" till 9pm tonight. Then Jason, loyal co-worker, gave me a lift home.
My Aunt Gretta from Spain was staying. Good to see her. We had a very hearty supper. I also phoned Clare... tomorrow I'm going (first class, wooooo!) to York to see her and also to be at a party that her Dad's organising... should be interesting. At some point after that I'll be back in Manchester. Probably madly packing, because on Tuesday I'm leaving the country for Southern Spain, ... at least for 7 days!
