WINTER / a poem by tom hunter / feb. 2012

WINTER

winter burns the air
its white ash floating down
on the skeleton trees
like the coroner's sheet
covering the face of the dead

a fur hat eats  a man's head
a red scarf tries to strangle a woman
all the heat stays indoors
to fall asleep on the ceiling

our souls try to escape by
leaping out of our mouths.
