Title: The Game of whatever-the-hell-this-is
Fandom: Fullmetal Alchemist
Pairing: Roy/Ed
Theme set: Alpha
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: Series spoilers, non-detailed sex, yaoi
Comfort: Ed’s bedside manner was terrible, but Roy still found comfort in his presence; seething mad over a near fatal gunshot wound or not.
Kiss: He didn’t have any real standard of comparison, but he would still argue that the uniformed man he had by the collar was the best kisser the world had ever seen.
Soft: Ed’s hair had seen sun, snow, rain, sand, seawater, blood and many other substances sure to do damage, but it was still soft under Roy’s hands, and he couldn’t get enough of it.
Pain: Ed felt himself die inside when he saw that nearly imperceptible twinge that meant his lover was in so much pain it had broken his careful façade, if only for a moment.
Potatoes: After a couple of years, your boyfriend’s quirks are just common knowledge, and when Roy first learned that Ed, who was known to eat anything, couldn’t stand the smell of cooking potatoes, his laughter nearly earned him a black eye and lost him yet another coffee mug, shattered against the wall.
Rain: Whenever rain streaked the windows of the apartment, Ed always made sure to pay a special visit to his Colonel; if he didn’t, he was so mopey by the time he got home that even Ed couldn’t stand to listen to him whine.
Chocolate: Ed was still new to all of this, gasping and writhing at every new technique, but Roy had known Ed would adapt quickly to this one; the boy had always loved chocolate.
Happiness: Roy was hurt every time Ed hesitated to kiss him, because he knew it meant that his lover was still waiting for it all to disappear; happiness and Edward had never coexisted before.
Telephone: There was nothing he loved more then to hear his lovers voice while on a mission, reassuring him that no, he had not left-him-for-legions-of-other-people-in-the couple-of-hours-he-had-been-away-thank-you-very-much.
Ears: Ed thought it was only fair to finally find one of his lover’s sensitive areas; after all, Roy knew all of his.
Name: Al had wondered just why Ed disappeared for hours at a time with no explanation, until he called a certain name in his sleep.
Sensual: He’d always known the Colonel was a womanizer, but it wasn’t until he spoke to him in that husky tone that he truly understood why.
Death: He was hurting, staring at the lifeless stone, because no man should have to bury his 24 year old lover.
Sex: This was what kept them together, through all the fights and hurt and personal demons; they always understood each other during this- soft and sweet in the moonlight.
Touch: Ed had been hypersensitive when he and Roy had first started dating, after all, he’d hadn’t had a lot of human contact in a long time; Roy had loved watching him squirm at the slightest touch.
Weakness: Roy’s pride made him just as headstrong as his infamous lover, but he knew Ed was his weakness and didn’t mind one bit.
Tears: It was easy to tell when his alchemist needed him most, because tears stained his soft cheeks.
Speed: Edward was brash and loud and fast in everything he did until Roy taught him that savoring the moment was often much more rewarding.
Wind: Ed came home from a mission from the windy desert, smelling of heat and tasting like sand and Roy just held him close because each mission could be the last.
Freedom: Ed had never really settled down, never stopped roaming the country, and adored Roy for loving him without taking his freedom.
Life: Perhaps the scariest part of the entire relationship was the knowledge that his boyfriend was his entire life, in all its aspects, his sunrise and sunset, and that he could snap his reality in his single metal hand.
Jealousy: It was impossibly endearing how Ed bristled like an offended wolf whenever women looked Roy’s way.
Hands: Roy holds Ed’s hands in his own, metal and flesh, and Ed is obviously uncomfortable with the attention Roy is giving his automail, and when Roy grabs Ed’s gaze with his own he says quietly but firmly, “I love you.”
Taste: Roy always tastes like a forbidden fruit to Ed, because he knows Roy makes him happy and he isn’t allowed that, not just yet.
Devotion: It wasn’t until afterwards that Roy heard the story (having been unconscious and bleeding at the time) but his men told him that Ed had attacked the criminals at the scene with a ferocity they’d never experienced before, taken control of the situation and organized every soldier in the vicinity, talked to the reporters and important citizens, seen Roy safely delivered to the hospital, and promptly collapsed in front of their eyes, like a puppet with his strings cut.
Forever: Ed nervously twisted the now familiar band on his finger with a single word engraved in it, “Forever.”
Blood: Ed has done more then his fair share of bleeding and Roy knows it, but it doesn’t stop the feeling of sick anxiety when he arrives on the scene to find his lover clutching his flesh arm, shirtless, and drenched in his own blood.
Sickness: For all that Ed was violent in his actions towards his lover, Roy always felt safe with Ed when he was sick, because he treated his as if made of glass until he was better, at which point he promptly punched him in the arm for “getting sick in the first place you cocky bastard.”
Melody: Sometimes Al would catch his brother humming a sad little tune that Roy had used to play for him, and Al would feel sadness in his chest as they read in their small apartment; Roy would never play for Ed again, he was an entire universe away.
Star: Ed was like a star going supernova when he was in a fury; he was violent and destructive and uncontrollable and Roy felt his heart wrench at knowing that he had caused his lover to become this, yet again.
Home: Ed looked at his unfamiliar ceiling in this unfamiliar place; he had never quite been able to call this place ‘home.’
Confusion: Ed tried to talk to him about his research, and though Roy tried his best to hide his dizzying confusions, Ed always eventually broke out into a shit eating grin and changed the subject; it infuriated Roy to no end that his lover could read him so well.
Fear: Roy had known fear of many types, but he hadn’t even known the meaning of the word until he found the ransom note on his desk, he had never known fear could be quite so real.
Lightning/Thunder: Ed and Roy were polar opposites, obsidian and gold, moon and sun, soldier and free spirit, but even though Roy was lightning to Ed’s thunder, everyone knows you can’t have one without the other.
Bonds: Ed glares at his bastard colonel with the strength to peel paint; only for him would he ever let anyone tie him to anything, for any reasons (even if he did like it, just a little bit).
Market: Roy sees people’s looks when he and Ed walk down the street, and he always levels a frosty glance at anyone who's eyes linger too long; this blond was not on the market.
Technology: Roy marvels at the technology of the automail (but only when Ed’s asleep, he doesn’t like it when Roy stares at it so intensely) and sends a silent thank you to the Rockbell girl back in Risembool, because how would they have ever become this if Ed had never had them?
Gift: That look in his eyes holds promises for later tonight, and it’s the best gift I've received from anyone here, celebrating my birthday.
Smile: Ed felt a pull in his gut the first time Roy really smiled at him, because Ed had never seen him look so human.
Innocence: Neither could claim innocence, being dogs of the military and slaves to their sins, and maybe it was that mutual understanding that caused neither to care.
Completion: After Maes had passed, Roy had always felt incomplete; Ed helped to fill that gap inside of him, just a little, where he'd had love and lost it.
Clouds: There were rumors spreading like wildfire through central that the infamous Flame and Fullmetal alchemists had been seen cloud gazing in the park; Hawkeye was more then a little agitated (the Colonel was supposed to be picking up take out for the unit) but she just couldn't bear to go tear him from his momentary happiness.
Sky: Ed is like the sky, vast and seemingly empty and prone to change, going from dark and heavy clouds to bright sunshine in the blink of an eye.
Heaven: Ed has the appearance of an angel, all golden hair and perfect skin, except for his eyes, which speak eloquently of repeated visits to hell.
Hell: There was a time Ed battled his demons alone, shaking and sweating under his sheets, but now he has Roy to guide him out of his hell and back into reality.
Sun: Ed is like the sun; he gives off his own light and subconsciously affects everyone around him until he is the center of their universe.
Moon: Roy is like the moon, controlling the tides of his existence and giving off a soft glow that is far from ignored, but never really acknowledged as the protector from the darkness.
Waves: Roy rocks his hips slowly, sending waves of ecstasy down his lover’s spine; he revels in the sounds he drags from his fiery boyfriend.
Hair: Al always knows when his brother is going out with the colonel, because he runs frantically around the house looking for hair ties to match his outfit and spends incredible amounts of time making sure it's just right.
Supernova: Ed runs his nails down Roy's back and throws his head back and then his whole world goes supernova.
