Friday night I really wanted to get to the Q for Adam Trudel and Skylark... I can't impress upon those who haven't seen Adam play solo how amazingly awesome he is. What a great talent! It has been a pleasure so far working beside him and hearing him play, and I'm sad that circumstances didn't allow for me to be there...
I ended up being home with Octavian, as is often the case now that Emilie has a job working overnights. Had Nick Davis over for pork chops and a bean medley that I made that tasted distinctly like fire. Nick brought the 'gansett and cheap whiskey - later in the night Mr. Siegrist, AO and Joe came over and we spent the rest of the night listening to CCR and talking poetry. Oh, and prank calls to Nick Connolly around midnight by Mr. Siegrist...
Greg texted me to see if he could crash on my futon, to which I said yes, then promptly passed out leaving Greg to sit on my front poor outside a locked door for over an hour before a text from him woke me up. Oops! Sorry Greg!
Saturday morning there was a surprise 54th Birthday party for my Dad. He knew about it, but my Mom gave me less than 24 hours notice, as she does about nearly every family party - my hectic life harldy allows for last minute major obligations, and Dad's actual birthday is tomorrow, but I made it a point to be there at 9am anyway - not a great decision on my part, as the rest of the day was filled with frustration and feeling awful on a number of levels.
I had every intention of making it to Ryk and Melissa's, then had both shifts call out at the Q, realized I had no gas in the tank and no money to make it happen, and generally felt tired and awful. Finally got to shoot home, had time to take a one hour nap, got Octavian to my Dad to be babysat for the night, and showed up twenty minutes late for Kitchen Sessions at Mike's house.
At this point I was ridiculously tired. I had thought about not going, but I had gone to the trouble of getting on the open mic list, had poetry I wanted to read, wanted to see Laura Yes Yes (I had never heard her read, but had heard good things) and really wanted to see 6 is 9. I saw him at the Hut years back, I don't think he was the feature, but I remember seeing him read and enjoying it. I got a second wind after reading (it's a good feeling when performance revitalizes you!) but had to leave half way through Khary Jackson's set. I think I lost consciousness the very second Octavian did - I woke up fully clothed...
Sunday morning I visited Cujo over at Scrimgeour. I hadn't seen him in a while, and I was in the neighborhood depositing money at the bank. Good to see him, but 11am is too early for "juice". (Never too early for Cuj, though.)
Managed to get the Q covered (thanks Greg!) so that I could shoot over to the Worcester Public Library for the WCPA's Annual Meeting. Got elected to the Board of Directors, which I am happy about and honored by. There seemed to be a general worry on the part of existing members that I would be bored by the meeting, but I all three and a half hours of it held my attention pretty well - I am excited about working with those folk in the future.
Had two hours of down time before I picked up Justin Bowse from TBO and then my brother, headed over to Dan Forde's house to lay the ground work for my new backing band. Excited about the potential there, and worried about my brother. He seems to be in some kind of existential quandary about his place in the musical world; frankly, I have no patience these days for those trains of thought, but I am concerned considering he went out for a butt and never came back. Later I found out that he had walked home. I'll have to keep an eye on Kid Brother. I warned him not to make me worry too much... oh well, I guess its something he has to go through.
This morning I was glad to have the leisure of watching Bugs Bunny with Octavian, and not having to leave the house until 10. Now I am at the Q. Long post I know, but this journal seems to be more for me than it is for others to read these days - I want to keep better track of my life than I have in the past...
Wow, I think either I'm getting carpal tunnel or I've just been typing for too long. Enough for now.
