So I left early Friday afternoon, in a Greenvan, from Shane's house headed for Brooklyn. Got there in time to load in, played a set, ate at a diner, drove straight through to Charlotte, loaded in, played a show, fell asleep during the headlining act (not because they weren't good, they were really good, but I hadn't slept yet...), crashed at a motel in NC for a couple of hours, then drove directly to Philly, crashed at Mark Leighton's house, then went home and played the Dirty Gerund.
That's the short version, doesn't really capture how amazingly fun and awesome touring the east coast was for me. I think I'll be writing more about it over time, I'll let what my faulty memory allows me to remember dictate which parts I write about. For now, I just have to say that Ticklebomb, Greg McKillop, and Nick Davis were the best tour mates I could imagine. And Shane - what a magical man he is. Talented performer and all that, but damn can the man organize his shit. I can't even imagine putting something like this together, although I feel like Shane and I have a similar vision regarding music, poetry and our careers in those fields. So Shane Hall, You're the friggin' man! Thanks to Brian Del Signore, Adam Trudel, Greg, Nick, Jess O'Neil, and John for being great tourmates and for sharing a great experience in a professional (but still incredibly fun) manner.
Some Highlight Memories from the Road:
-There's a town in CT near the New York border called Mianus. Shane saw the sign and had a giggle fit; the jokes about Mianus didn't stop for the whole tour.
-Consequently, Nick and I banging on the motel room door for the non-smokers in the group, mooning them and saying "check out downtown Mianus!" Greg was the one answering the door, he was not amused.
-Nick performing "ADD" in Brooklyn. The room exploded when he said "dance party!" and it put a smile on my face, for sure.
-The diner we ate at in Brooklyn with the waitress that couldn't stay awake or serve us in a timely fashion. (Shane asked if they had root beer at one point, the waitress loudly said "YES" and continued walking away. Shane looked momentarily dumbfounded and asked if he could have one, to which she replied "YES".
-The diner in Brooklyn caused a major conflict in all of our stomachs; incidentally, we all collectively stunk up Elwood's Music Hall in Charlotte when we got there...
-Exquisite Corpse with Jessica and Nick somewhere in Virginia
-Shane stopping to ask for directions to Mianus on the way home.
Now I'm home, time to get back to real life. Excited to hopefully see photos and hear recordings from the road soon! Will post here!
