Opinion question...

I've run into something that's become sort of a frustration to me. As I'm brand new to trans issues and have become more aware of my own probable genderqueer/transgender i.d., I've been doing more research and reading as much as I can. I'm aware of a lot of the resources that you guys have posted here (which have been very helpful), but in searching for more I've found something strange, in that it seems that a lot of the online trans resources I find are MTF specific.

What's bothering me is, of course, *NOT* that they are MTF sites, but that many of them present themselves as general "Transgender" resources, and it's only once you start to read the content that you see that they are using "transgendered" and "transexual" to mean ONLY MTF.

The parallel that comes to mind is that "gay" ten years ago meant "homosexual". Now it refers to men specifically more often than not.

Is this just a fact of life that I'm not aware of? Is this as common place as it seems to me so far or am I wrong? Do FTM's face invisibility in the trans community as some lesbians face in the gay community? After being a part of so many other invisible demographics (woman - strike one, lesbian - strike two, genderqueer - strike three) it makes me sad that now that I've found a community where I feel more at home that I may be invisible yet again.

Maybe I'm just a newbie stating the obvious, or maybe I'm way off....but what do you all think?
