Spent most of Tuesday with no power in the house, thanks, it turned out, to a corroded fuse on the power pole outside the house. I had just enough power in my phone to call the power company.
Oddly, later I managed to drop my phone into some spilled water (a whole other story). I picked it up, shook the water off and put it outside to dry. On checking it, the battery charge was now listed as full, and a day later it’s still almost fully charged.
So it seems the lesson is that you can charge your phone by getting it wet and swearing a lot.
