Whitby

Been mulling this over for a bit and I have decided to post this on the WGW forum.

I am fully expecting that my profile will get removed after this but to be honest I am not that concerned either way ~shrug~

Before I get into it I would say that I have attended every Goth Weekend (week!) since Oct 1999 and I have attended the Spa from then until ( Read more... )

Totally agree! As you know, Jo and I don't do the Spa and it is due to cost and bands. Apart from the Whitby X lineup and Zodiac Mindwarp there has been nothing that I would pay £45 for.

I go to the Alternative because I like bleep. Jo enjoys the fact that he doesn't feel pressured to dress up, whereas I love the fact that I can dress up as much or as little as I like. I love the fact that there is a huge choice of what to do (pub, club, bands) and that everyone appears to have a good time!

As you say, WGW is now way bigger than the Spa, and I wonder if the organisers of the Spa are concerned that eventually they are going to be superflous (sp), as with all things the event has now got bigger than the initial concept.

Most people go because of the people (and the 80's night), the Spa barely registers for me. I love the shopping, but my absolute favourite thing about Whitby is the ability to meet up with people whom I rarely see, and talk rubbish. And get hugged. I'm all about the hugs!

As with all things Whitby will constantly evolve, and it needs to if it's going to continue. It cannot be pickled in aspic as some sort of 'perfect goth festival' and kept the same way for ever.

I'm now rambling, so I'll leave it there, but you know what I mean (I hope)
