Last week was just awful because I had a Monday screening that in turn gave me a cold and the screening was far from what I'm comfortable with (Korean zombie movie, a full-house screening, in a very cold movie theatre, with some people I don't usually watch movies with) so that was really not an ideal way to start the week to have a productive one. I was cranky all week long and was just horribly anti-social. It also ended in a low note, as my cold transformed into a full-blown case of influenza, thanks to a week's worth of atrocious weather (rain... in September! RAIN!)
But on Friday, while I was battling a sneezing fit and had to go everywhere using a face mask, I met an old friend from Kinokuniya. She kindly passed along a sample copy (it doesn't really say advanced reader's copy so no idea what copy this is, whether it's the final copy or just still an unedited one) of Sabaa Tahir's A Torch Against The Night, the sequel to An Ember in the Ashes - a book that was so hyped up last year that I almost didn't want to read but I ended up reading anyway because I shouldn't let the over-the-top hype machine influence anything I do. So I got this free copy of the novel, but I'm still going to buy the hardcover when it comes later to the store.
My friend has been having a great month last month selling Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, but when I met her, she asked me, "Do I really need to make a pre-order event for the Fantastic Beasts screenplay book?" And I told her, "Not really, but if you do, I guarantee you, there will be people pre-ordering. Also, can you put my name at the top of that pre-order list, like, yesterday?" I think she's a little bit overwhelmed by this idea of Magic's Great Big Comeback, thanks to the FB movie and the Cursed Child play...
But anyway, she's a stand-up gal for letting me have Sabaa Tahir's second book. I'm reading it now to write a review but I do so gladly! Thanks, Dince!
