Here's the thing: I had a fabulous weekend. By 'fabulous' I meant that I did everything I wanted to do and still managed to relax and forget about real life (i.e. work and other shite) for 48 hours. I ate well, went shopping (and lost money to retailers) and even got my hair done. I also enjoyed the return of my favorite TV shows and just had fun in general.
Sunday night, I was about to have dinner with my family and I remembered that I'd promised someone I'd meet with them. I made this promise after our last appointment on Thursday last week. First of all, this person borrowed two flash disks from my chief editor and I had to get them back, otherwise Chief is going to just keep borrowing flash disks from people (mainly me, because I have, like, 12 flash disks and 4 harddisks) and I don't want to do that. Secondly, I always try to keep my promises despite Monday mornings being the hardest time for me to do anything because, hell, who does anything on Monday mornings? So anyway I fired off an email to this person and saying hi there, let's meet like I said we would!
...and then I didn't hear back.
So right now, it's Monday morning, I'm at the meeting place and... nothing. Nada. She hasn't shown up. She hasn't sent word back about whether she was coming or she was indisposed. I mean, at least an email, man. Then I remembered that, oh yeah, this person can't get in touch with me because, whaddya know, her phone was just damaged last week when it got thrown out of a car. Which is, WOW. If I recall correctly, this would be the second time she was without a phone because of some debilitating damage that would prevent her from contacting me.
But, see, so maybe this is just me or it's just my Monday morning hangover-like brain in general but, dear God, I would expect someone who writes for a website should depend on more than just one method of communication. I'm baffled by the fact that a reporter who writes for something that uses HTTP in its address and reviews and watches Beasts Of No Nation (and that's when Neflix isn't even yet available officially here) would know better than to put their phones in constant danger and doesn't check their emails every four hours at least to maintain communication with whoever it is they talk to. It's just so weird and out of character that now I keep hearing the Twilight Zone theme in my head.
I don't know. I guess this ought to teach me to not have too much of an expectation for... anything, really. That's Monday mornings for you: it's time to be pessimistic and continue to be so until Wednesday night!
This is annoying. I am annoyed. By this whole experience of this non-meeting and damaged phones and unreplied emails. The world should go back to sleep and stop being Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. It should be Friday, Saturday and Sunday all the time.
Annoying.
