SPECTRE

Thanks to French cinema craziness, I almost forgot to squee about the latest James Bond film.

And they've gone and done it, haven't they? They managed to get SPECTRE in their film! After Quantum, Quantum and Quantum, we are finally getting the James Bond equivalent of MCU's HYDRA. I was watching the live streaming of the title announcement last Thursday afternoon and I nearly imploded from the excitement. I was flailing in my chair, couldn't write down any of my notes (that I needed to write an article about it later!) because my hands were shaking so badly.

As if that was not enough, they also had to announce ANDREW SCOTT AND DAVE BAUTISTA in the new cast. I mean, Andrew Scott! Dave Bautista! Moriarty and Drax in the same film! Unbelievable. Dave Bautista went from crying when he heard that he got a role in a Marvel movie to starring as a badass character in a James Bond movie, directed by Sam Mendes. Holy wow - so happy for him!

I have high hopes for the new cast. Christoph Waltz is always dependable, Monica Bellucci has just been begging to be cast as a Bond girl and Lea Seydoux... well. Let's see about her. (I'm not all that impressed by her but maybe my opinion will change later.) And Naomie Harris, who is as gorgeous as she was before the Bond gig, is back. Ben Whishaw is back. Ralph Fiennes is back. RORY KINNEAR IS BACK. Very happy about that - I can no longer imagine a Bond movie without his Tanner. I was worried that, when Dame Judi's M passed away in Skyfall, Kinnear's Tanner would also disappear... glad to see that that wasn't the case. I can't wait to see Daniel Craig act with all of them.

But let me get one thing straight: I don't mind if Blofeld isn't going to be in this movie. Yes, it would be ideal to have Blofeld in any James Bond movie with an organization called SPECTRE in it. But let's not jump the gun and say things like "Damn why is Christoph Waltz's character's name not Blofeld?" and "Bet Franz Oberhauser is just a disguise; he's probably playing Blofeld." I'd be happy if Waltz's character really turns out to be Blofeld, but whatever happens, Blofeld or no Blofeld, I still relish the idea of having SPECTRE in one of Daniel Craig's Bond films.

(Right now I'm thinking it would be super if they kept Blofeld for Bond 25, though. If I'm not mistaken, Bond 25 is Craig's last Bond film. If they kept him as the supervillain of Bond 25, it would be epic.)

The Aston Marton DB10 also looks properly awesome (those wheels!) But I'm not a car buff so I was more excited to see this intriguing teaser poster.

Is that a vague shape of a spider? Octopus tentacles? The cracked glass with the bullet hole reminded me immediately of Tracy Bond's death in On Her Majesty's Secret Service. Or am I going overboard with the speculations?

November 6, 2015 can't come too soon.
