Pretty sure everyone has donated their two cents in the whole Luis Suárez controversy in the World Cup but I can't help but to do the same. Mostly because I have a colleague who just refuses to believe that Luis Suárez should come with a huge warning sign that says "DANGEROUS MAN WITH BAD TEETH AND POOR IMPULSE CONTROL. WILL BITE IF ANNOYED. KEEP AWAY." and is instead utterly convinced that Suárez is the very best of Liverpool players.
Which is just... wrong. So wrong on so many levels that I can't believe that I'm hearing it from someone close to me.
Suárez apologists are in denial, blind or both. What angers me the most is how the Uruguay national team (and president, too, if I'm not mistaken) react to
FIFA's decision to ban Suárez: they clearly believe Suárez is not at all wrong. They keep making and finding excuses for him and what he did. Complaining that his punishment was too harsh and preparing to appeal... what the hell are they playing at?
Also, that "accusation of European conspiracy" is beyond ridiculous. (If it turns out to be true, I'd still call it ridiculous because f*ck it. This whole situation is ridiculous.) Not only that, the whole "Uruguay threatens to boycott round of 16 match against Colombia" is an idiotic move. (You want to stick it up to FIFA, Uruguay? Then why don't you go there, play, score, win and show FIFA that you're capable of winning a match without Suárez's antics? Doing otherwise will only prove that your entire national team is a joke.) It's seriously f*cked up.
I've lost my respect for Uruguay. I sincerely wish it had been England that had gone through with Costa Rica to round of 16. Uruguay does NOT deserve their place in the round of 16. ANYTHING would be better than Uruguay right now.
And after all this, my colleague still said to me: "Suárez might have gone too far this time but, just like Maradona, he does everything he can for his national team. That's admirable."
Maradona. He compared Suárez to Maradona. Only one of my least favorite 'legends' in the world. As if that makes things better.
Another type of Suárez apologists/defenders that I hate is the one who turn on Chiellini, calling him names and accusing him of being no better than the man who offended him. I don't know Chiellini that well but the vitriol thrown his way after this makes me want to take up the Juventus flag, wave it around and defend him all the way through the next season. Because shut up, your everything is invalid. *shudder*
And that has been my rant on the World Cup 2014.
