So
a few days ago I lost my phone, which was my mom's old Nokia with the strong battery and awesome big fonts. Since the phone is quite old anyway, I thought it might be a good chance for me to upgrade myself into a smartphone.
To be honest, I was kind of wary - still am - of these things called smartphones. I am of the belief that this particular technology makes douches out of most people; as they become thoroughly obsessed with checking their phones, they forget social niceties. So I resisted the idea of using smartphones because people get dumb when they use them.
However my mother was supportive of the idea of me owning a device that has the WhatsApp application and I really do need a phone that can record video and audio stuff during interviews. I thought long and hard about it and one of the very few smartphones in the market that interested me is the HTC One mini. When my mother offered to give me an early birthday present (a very early birthday present), I didn't refuse and so today we got this:
I hereby make my pledge and vow to never become a failure of a human being due to a smartphone. If I ever forget my manners in public because of this smartphone (e.g. turning on my phone in the middle of a movie at the cinema, ignoring friends when we're together so I can play with my phone, refusing to call/email someone and ask them to use WhatsApp instead) I will personally chuck this phone into the bin and bang my head into a very hard brick wall. God forbid. But there you go.
Now I have to learn how to use this thing...
