I come bearing a huge update. With pictures! (Though not as picspam-y as I want it to be.)
You'll forgive me for not blogging in the past week. I heard there was some kind of "emergency maintenance" the other day and the site couldn't be accessed? Well, I can say this: thank god for deadlines.
Actually, NO. NOT THANK GOD DEADLINES. I don't even know why I said that. I take it back.
(Can you believe, the magazine is still not done yet? Never mind. I don't feel like talking about it. Although, I can definitely say that it's one of our more interesting issues to work on.)
So many things happened to me this week. Monday and Tuesday were just work, work, work, work, work. And then... well, not so many screenings. But of course something big happened to me in terms of work, movies and meeting celebs. So, yeah, this week was rough, but also quite exhilarating.
People, if you see Fast & Furious 6 playing anywhere near you, do give the movie a try. Please? Because I swear it's actually a good movie, as in 'pure popcorn entertainment' (and one that won't make you angry with the writers the way Star Trek Into Darkness does). And also, this guy right here is worth checking out:

Joe Taslim, baby. Indonesia's very own The Rock Jr. He was in The Raid, got a Hollywood deal and so he plays Henchman #1 to Luke Evans' supervillain in Fast 6. He's so awesome and I am so very proud of him. He is the nicest, handsomest and humblest movie person in Indonesia that I know of right now. Even with the major Hollywood deal, Joe remains so down-to-earth, as well as being very professional and articulate to journalists.
At the Fast 6 screening on Friday morning, Joe watched with us. It was his first time watching the movie in full, just like us. His greeting to us as he entered the cinema was, "Hi, friends. I'm sorry if there's not a lot of me in the movie." It seemed as if he was embarrassed that we were all so excited about him appearing in the movie without him knowing just how it was going to turn out. And his name actually came last in the opening credits, below Danish actor Thure Lindhart's name. But then we found out just how untrue that almost-apologetic "not a lot of (him)" was. Because DAMN THERE IS A LOT OF HIM IN FAST 6.
Joe asked Justin Lin, the director, to squeeze in a line in Indonesian. He also incorporated the silat movements he learned from the guys in The Raid. He is A Presence in the movie and you will see him. I'm not a fan of every single people I interview, but with Joe Taslim... he is UP THERE on my list. GUH.
And now my Interview folder in the laptop looks like this:

Joe Taslim, along with the Hannibal, The Hobbit and Veep crowd. He's made it. One, these are hell to transcribe. Two, but they are worth the effort. Three, I'm so happy I resigned from the bookstore so I could do this job.
It wasn't all fun and games, though. As I said, deadline period is never fun, as evidenced by the contents of my table on the wee hours of Wednesday morning. I'd been working since the previous night so it was like 7 hours straight working overtime, after 8 hours in the office during the day. (Meanwhile, journalists outside Indonesia went to Cannes. Damn it.)
Thursday was Star Trek Into Darkness viewing #3; I went with
at_midnight. Then Saturday morning, once more Into Darkness, this time with some people from the office. So here's the tally...
Iron Man 3: 3 screenings. Star Trek Into Darkness: 4 screenings.
I currently have no more plans to watch STID but I still want to see Tony Stark in action. (Although, really, Fast 6 officially has the best action sequences and set pieces in a summer movie this year.)
Now it's Sunday and I'm planning to stay at home and do absolutely nothing more strenuous than lying in bed with Paddy, my Paddington Bear, and Dan Brown's latest novel, Inferno (which I bought on Wednesday, which was stupid because I knew I couldn't stop myself from reading it and therefore giving myself problems as I was in the middle of editing the magazine but ANYWAY.) So far so good. Well, not good like Angels & Demons good, but not annoyingly messy like The Lost Symbol either.
My mom and my sister are both out of town. My sister has been in Singapore since Monday and my mom is in Surabaya since Friday. They're both not coming back home until Monday so right now there's only my dad and me. My dad is probably going to stay in front of the TV all day, watching whatever, and we'll both be playing with the cat.
Speaking of:
The cat is not shy; she's bathing. (This was taken 10 days ago, on the eve of my mom's birthday. She was curious about the presents sitting on the table that's her usual perch in the living room. After she'd finished checking them out, she took a bath. I was watching Labyrinth and looking at Tom Felton but I had my camera nearby so I paused the thing and took a picture of her.) Considering that she loves to play and frolic in our garden at the back of the house during the day, and that she hates being idle when there are people awake to play with her, I'm guessing she'll be the least lazy creature at our house this Sunday. I plan on competing with her on the laziness department.
Have a good Sunday, people.
