Finally, the Oscar post!
This is pretty much where I gush about Daniel Radcliffe, the Avengers cast and Argo.
By the way, you have no idea how ECSTATIC I was to hear that Argo won Best Picture. I'd be okay if Beasts Of The Southern Wild or Life Of Pi won. Both movies clearly deserved the honor and I was actually upset that Beasts didn't get to take home any trophy (fools!) But Argo is definitely the film of my award season heart and I really wanted Ben Affleck and his fellow producers to have the honor of doing a clean sweep at the awards this year. And they did and I was glad for it because I don't know what I'd do with myself if any other movie ruined that for them.
Congratulations to Mr. Affleck, Mr. Clooney, Mr. Heslov (Best Picture), Mr. Chris Terrio (Best Adapted Screenplay) and Mr. William Goldenberg (Best Editing) for the honor of bringing home the golden trophies. (Also Heslov said, "I know what you're thinking - we're the sexiest producers". And I'm like, F*CK YEAH!)

By the way, I see that some of the Argo cast members joined the producers on stage, and I was reminded of Oscars 2004 when Return Of The King won Best Picture. The cast joined PJ on stage and I think that's where that tradition started, where everybody joined the producer/director on stage during a Best Picture acceptance speech. Correct me if I'm wrong, please, but I do think it was the LOTR crowd that instigated it.
Meanwhile, the only surprise in the Best Acting categories was Jennifer Lawrence's win as Best Actress. The others were kind of predictable. What was unpredictable was
Daniel Day-Lewis' hilarious joke about how he was down to play Thatcher and he'd like to see a version of Lincoln where Meryl Streep plays Lincoln. I swear that man should host the Oscars next year just because. (Anne Hathaway should learn how to make and deliver speeches from him. She's awful at speeches and I muted my TV so that I didn't have to hear her.) So the acting categories belong to 2 middle-aged European men and 2 young American women. What does this say about this year's Oscars? You tell me. Anyway, congrats!

Also, here is last year's Best Actor winner whom Jennifer Lawrence got to receive the trophy from, the dashing and debonair Jean Dujardin.

So this year's Oscars is full of musicals. Jennifer Hudson reprised her Dreamgirls song, as did Catherine Zeta-Jones with "All That Jazz" from Chicago. The cast of Les Misérables sang a medley of their songs and I thought it was a bit off-key and it was rather lackluster until Aaron Tveit stormed on stage and KILLED IT with his magnificent vocals. (Seriously, just put Tveit and Samantha Barks and tell everyone else to go home because these two are on another level entirely.)
And yet, the best music performances came from two Bond singers: Shirley Bassey, performing the classic "Goldfinger", and Adele, performing "Skyfall". Standing ovation for Ms. Bassey and it was a well deserved one. Adele deserved the win and I am so happy that Skyfall WON TWO AWARDS AT THE OSCARS! (Apparently, the last time any Bond movie won an Oscar was in 1966 where Thunderball won Best Visual Effects.) Too bad Roger Deakins didn't win - he should have! - but this is already amazing, even if the James Bond tribute montage was somewhat underwhelming.

And now let me address the issue of Oscar host Seth Macfarlane. People have been dissing him for bigot and racist jokes. Some of the accusations are deserved, of course, but honestly - if you know Seth Macfarlane's work at all, you would've understood why those jokes were made. He has been known to be rude and inappropriate many, many times over so really, why anyone raised their expectations for Macfarlane and then got disappointed and angry by it is beyond me.
I tell you what, though, you say whatever you want about Macfarlane but to be very honest, I'd rather see him than Billy Crystal. Last year's ceremony was boring as f*ck and I was honestly disappointed to see that the highlight of the show was a Cirque du Soleil performance. And Billy Crystal's singing annoyed the hell out of me. At least Macfarlane can sing. Properly. He has a very good voice, which I'm surprised about. So, yeah, maybe I'm in the minority but this was the first time I enjoyed an Oscar ceremony since Jon Stewart hosted it in 2006. Hugh Jackman in 2008 was okay, too, but this year's ceremony really is one of the better ones.
Then again, that's probably only because I got to see Daniel Radcliffe and Joseph Gordon-Levitt dancing together and because there's the cast of The Avengers in the ceremony. And actually, this year's presenter line-up was very exciting. I remember Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis presenting and they fell so flat, it was nauseating. The moment those Avengers dudes (sadly, minus Black Widow - who's undercover in South America - and Thor - who's dealing with Loki's punishment in Asgard) walked on stage, my Twitter went a little crazy. Because, yeah, EVERYBODY liked 2012's top grossing movie and yeah, they WOULD tune in to the Oscars to see 5 of them present two awards together.
Here, I'm going to shut up and let you all see the pics.

Look at Chris Evans with his mom! Look at the bromance! Look at all the handsome, classy suits-clad movie star good looks! Look at all the smiles! AVENGER SMASH!
Last but not least (actually, he should be the first one I mentioned but I somehow wanted to save the best for last): DANRAD.
He is so freaking awesome in this show I just wanted to hug him.

So he presented with KStew. It's okay. I forgive the producers for that because the Hogwarts theme was played when they both entered the stage. Mind you, it wasn't the theme from Twifright - it was the Hogwarts theme. And yeah, that was my favorite moment from the show because really the Hogwarts theme should be played in every Oscar ceremony since 2002.
So that was my impression of this year's Academy Awards ceremony. As I have said many times before, 2012 was a great year in movies. I didn't actually need any movie to be awarded to figure out which ones I liked best, but some of my favorite movies were awarded in this award season and I'm glad for that. I hope 2013 would be a great year in movies as well so that next year's award season could be one hell of a season too.
