Glee 2.22: "New York" (Part 1)

May 25, 2011 23:44

I decided to write my Glee episode review first before I continue my trip report because there are a few things that I just can't stop flailing about. And, uhm, this review is going to have two parts... because in this first part I'm only going to be talking about some pairings-related things that I need to get out of my chest. The second part is going to be the more "serious" (or something resembling serious) one where I discuss where the episode and the music in it fails/succeeds as a season finale.

Anyway, don't let me bore you with the details. Let's get on with the flail!

Kurt/Rachel Friendship

You know what, guys? I have to stand by what I say in "Duets". Kurt and Rachel would definitely make a great combo in Broadway. After hearing them singing For Good from Wicked - singing a song that was once a duet between Idina Menzel and Kristen Chenoweth's - and seeing them on that Broadway stage, I firmly believe that these two characters are way too good for high school show choir. They both look so good together - Kurt wearing that suit, Rachel wearing that dress - standing in front of Tiffany & Co's, eating breakfast like they belong there, that I felt like I was going blind from the attractiveness these two ooze at that moment. (Mind you, I never find Lea Michele beautiful although I think Chris Colfer is one of the handsomest men alive. But when she's with Chris, she just radiates a different kind of beauty. It's like Chris makes her look good or something.)

Throughout the episode, I got so frustrated because the main storyline is all Finchel so naturally Rachel spends more time with Finn than with Kurt... I got annoyed because I wanted to see more Kurt and Rachel together. Heh.

I don't even know if I ship them as friends or what... I just know that they look good together and I want to see them standing next to each other looking good all the time. Is that weird?

Brittany/Artie Reconciliation

1. They made an original song together.
2. They made an innuendo-laden original song together.
3. They sang said innuendo-laden original song together.
4. Brittany didn't start dating Santana in the end.

Does this mean they're still together? They're still together, right? PLEASE TELL ME I AM NOT HALLUCINATING. I need Brittany and Artie to be together. *begs RIB*

Anyways. It's good to see that Brittany is still her awesome self.

Brittany/Santana Friendship

...survives! Yes! I really wanted to see them reconcile without Santana's feelings getting in the way. I mean, they were friends first before they started having "sweet lady kisses" together. It made me feel better knowing that they're still BFFs despite Santana wanting one thing and Brittany wanting another. Brittany did say she loved Santana (I'll have to watch it again to make sure) but I'm pretty sure she was talking in the context of them being friends. And this is, once again, the reason why I admire Brittany. But Santana, too, is finally showing some maturity in her attitude towards Brittany. Their hug at the end was all kinds of sweet. I APPROVE. ♥

Kurt/Blaine Declaration Of Love

I'm sorry but... what the hell was that?

BLAINE. ARE YOU FREAKING SERIOUS?!

No, no, don't get me wrong. This has got nothing to do with me not shipping Klaine and shipping Kurtofsky instead. (Has to be said so people don't get the wrong idea.)

That was the single most random and unromantic declaration of love that I've heard on TV in the past 5 years. Or ever. I think Blaine might be sincere but the way he said it was more like, "OH, you're such a cute kitten, Kurtie... what a lovely pet you are! I love you!" And while a spur-of-the-moment "I love you" might be sweet enough for Blaine, I was angry because I'm such a major Kurt fan and I'm, like, OH HELL NO! KURT DESERVES BETTER THAN THAT!

Also. I cannot get over how it took Kurt a long time to respond. While it wasn't forever, but he still took a few moments to pause and think of a reply. I think he was shocked or something - and understandably so - but then I realized he didn't sound too excited about it either. It sounded more like he was wary... like he was afraid Blaine was just joking and didn't mean it and was going to break his heart (because Blaine had done that before, prior to Pavarotti's death). I just felt kind of iffy seeing that expression on Kurt's face.

I don't know what's going on with this scene and with that "I love you" but I just know it makes me feel a lot suspicious. I may have to write a fanfic to further purge this suspicion out of my system and make sense out of the whole thing. Argh.

But anyway, I saved the best pairing for last.

SAM/MERCEDES SECRET LOVE

OMG! IT'S CANON!

I can't even with them! I take one look at Sam and Mercedes together and I just lost it. I howled in front of my PC monitor and pumped my fist in the air. I think I rattled the windows and made my cat cry.

THIS IS THE MOST EPIC HET PAIRING IN GLEE EVER! Because one, it's about time Mercedes gets a boy; two, it's so out of left field in "Prom Queen" that it makes so much sense; and three, they look surprisingly good together. Enough said.

I don't know why they're keeping it a secret, though. I'm pretty sure Kurt will be able to see through it soon enough. But whatever. As long as they're together, they can keep it a secret if they want. Just... BE TOGETHER, SAMCEDES!!!

(And who knew that all it took for Chord Overstreet to rise up in my estimation was being Amber Riley's on-screen boyfriend? I actually feel quite happy that I have a reason to like Chord, because I dislike not liking him. I'm also glad Chord now has a purpose on the show--Chord, I take back everything I said about you and Sam being useless! You're not useless anymore! HURRAH!)

Oh man. This beats Pizes and Bartie. I'm just so into Samcedes right now that they make me completely giddy. I just how RIB don't break them up next season. I mean, at least let us see them date for a while longer. The only thing that would make me giddier is Kurtofsky happening (hey, don't knock it until you know for sure - because Samcedes was foreshadowed in "Prom Queen" and there has been a lot more Kurtofsky foreshadowing all season long so...) :D

Let me scream it one more time: SAMCEDES FTW!

Now I'll just drink my coffee and watch the episode again so I can discuss the episode properly. Although, I'm not promising that I will be entirely calm in the second part of the review. After all, the Samcedes force is still with me and it's still going strong...
