Stop me from thinking
Since I've begun writing Glee fics as well and currently have one WIP and three other plot bunnies hopping around, I've been thinking a lot about parallels between Glee ships and Harry Potter ones.
Then I realized that perhaps one of the reasons why I ship Kurtofsky more than I do Klaine is because I'm originally a Harry/Draco shipper in the other fandom. The way I see it, Kurtofsky dynamics is a lot like H/D dynamics. They were practically mortal enemies at Hogwarts but towards the end Draco is (somewhat, though very disappointingly vaguely) redeemed and that's how we get post-Deathly Hallows H/D stories. Kurt and Karofsky are like that as well. (And I've always thought Karofsky is the Glee version of Draco... *shrugs*)
So now I know why I don't ship Kurt/Blaine. It's, like... Harry/Ginny. I don't mind Harry/Ginny. It's canon and it's there - deal with it. Ginny is an awesome character, but who the hell ships them? (OK, some people do. And I have nothing against these people. Seriously, I love Ginny.) But I don't ship them in fanfics and stuff because... what's the point? They're already... done. Don't you think?
Anyway. With that in mind, I came up with this list of 'pairing counterparts' between Glee and HP. They definitely won't work for everyone. I suspect they work only for me and the counterparts will be disputable in so many ways. But in my own head, they work this way. Also, they are not in any way complete (as in, I don't include all the pairings in the list, just the ones that matter to me... and basically that means just Kurt and everyone related to Kurt).
Harry/Ginny = Kurt/Blaine (or Finn/Rachel)
Any canon pairing except should be seen as Harry/Ginny. Or Ron/Hermione.
Harry/Draco = Kurt/Karofsky
Self explanatory.
Harry/Ron = Kurt/Finn
Long shot. But this is how I see their relationship. Ron and Harry are like brothers. Finn and Kurt are now too.
Any Slyterin/Ginny = Azimio/Blaine
You read that correctly. It's because I have a plot bunny for Azimio/Blaine and it's kind of crazy so I wanted to create a counterpart for it.
Harry/Neville = Kurt/Artie
Which I doubt I'll ever get into, but, again, there's this plot bunny hopping around in my head. I need to kill it.
Harry/Hermione = Blaine/Rachel or Kurt/Any Girl
a.k.a. DO NOT WANT! (times infinity)
Harry/Blaise = Dave/Blaine
For me this belongs to the DO NO WANT category as well. I tried reading one Blainofsky the other day and... sorry. Couldn't go through with it. Eh.
Harry/Charlie = Kurt/Puck
Charlie = BAMF. Puck = BAMF. Hence, counterpart.
Harry/Luna = Dave/Finn
The idea is great. But I just don't think it'll work. Or, at least, I don't think I could make it work in a fic.
Now, the bunnies I have currently (aside from the one for my WIP) include these bizarre plots (which is why I need to kill them before they breed):
- Blaine/Azimio: future fic; Dave and Kurt are together in college; Azimio and Blaine are their friends and both are often treated like third (and fourth) wheels whenever they hang out; when Azimio learns that Blaine still harbors feelings for Kurt, he decides to "take one for the team" and helps to protect Dave and Kurt's relationship by courting Blaine; they really fall in love along the way. :P
- Finn/Blaine: Finn realizes he sucks at dating women and having relationships with them, so he decides to try check out the bisexual dating pool. The first guy he runs into at a party? Kurt's ex-boyfriend. Since Kurt's now in a happy, committed relationship with Dave, Finn doesn't think he'll be angry if he snags Blaine Anderson as his first ever boy date.
- Kurt/Dave/Finn: I have no idea. I'd just like to see the three of them together doing... something naughty.
- Kurt/Azimio: friendship only; future fic; Kurt and Az find themselves on a year-long student exchange program in Paris and they're the only Americans in their orientation group; they become friends and get caught up in all crazy stunts; Kurtofsky endgame, with a possible Azimio/Blaine relationship.
I invest way too much time thinking up bizarre plots. I really need to be stopped. :P
In other news, I'm still looking for a Remember The Titans DVD. Does anyone know where to get them in Australia? /random
