I cannot honestly tell you how it happened but Chris and I were enrolled in babysitting duty. Yes that is right. I still do not see how it could have happened.

My cousin, Petra, was in town with her daughter, Jana. Had I known I would have stayed hidden in my room but she showed up unexpectedly so when I came down this morning to get coffee at a time where no one is usually up, I stopped dead in my track when I saw that not only were my parents in the kitchen but so was Petra, which I haven’t seen since I started playing in Hamilton, back in 2002, and her daughter, who is seven. They all stared at me until I realized that I was barely dressed, wearing only boxers and even that they were laying so low on my hips because I had tugged them on in the dark so as not to wake up Chris.

After a round of hellos and how are yous, I darted back into my room and decided that I was going to hide there until they leave. This seemed like a good idea seeing as how Chris was waking up and still sleepy so I crawled back into bed with him.

I thought for sure that it would end there but then there was a knock on the door and just as we managed to hastily covered ourselves with a discarded blanket Jana ran in and jumped the bed, talking at twenty kilometers an hour, probably more, and I could not even understand her, let alone Chris.

So finally when I managed to get her to calm down and get her to talk to a normal rate her mother came in and asked if I could baby-sit her for a few hours. At least until lunch. I shared a look with Chris and just as I was about to refuse, I saw my mom standing behind her. Of course, I did not even spoken a word and she was already giving me this look that had the meaning of “Do not even think about getting out of this one. She needs a break and you are give it to you”. And yes she said all this in a look. She is good no?

Anyway, about 30 minutes later, we were dressed, showered and Jana was waving goodbye to Petra. I was hoping the whole misadventure thing would be over and we would have a seemingly calm morning… I had forgotten how full of energy Eva could be. And I also hadn’t counted on her not speaking English yet. That was fun. I could not leave them for a second seeing as how she wouldn’t listen to Chris and even then, Chris could understand but not talked just yet. So while she was talking at full speed I could see him trying to understand. She didn’t have a clue that he could understand and he wanted it that way. Weird, but this is Chris.

Anyway, trying to explain who Chris was and why is stuff was in my room was trying. I know that most of my family knew I was gay and who Chris was, but I didn’t think it was my place to explain to a seven year old that gay isn’t bad and isn’t an insult. And what it meant.

That was… interesting.

Anyway we managed to find that one apartment that was free for the rest of the summer in Praha and now we are starting to move in today. Good news.

And if I hear anything about that guy from last summer that I played with a million years ago… well I just might end up strangling him.
