Toomer's Corner

As some of you know (especially those that live in Alabama), that Toomer's Corner's ancient oaks were poisoned. These trees have been with the Auburn for about 130 years and has been apart of the tradition through many generations. When Auburn had a major win in a sports event, or any other major celebration, that was where many gathered to celebrate and roll the trees to let everyone know we did well. Now, through one person's malicious actions, years of feelings, traditions, and memories have been crushed.

We still hold out hope that Auburn can save the trees, but honestly it's not looking good. The poison used was in such a concentration that if it travels in the soil and water bed it could also kill all the plants within a block radius easily.

So today was the last day before the trees are going to be completely blocked off while Auburn officials try and remove the poisoned dirt around the trees and attempt to save them. If the trees can not be saved then the land will have to be prepped anyway for the future.

There has been an overwhelming amount of support from all sorts of people, from our greatest rival Alabama and also from Georgia have helped in giving support. There has been an amazing amount of emotional support for everyone that this atrocious act effected.

I am glad that I got to be there this year for Auburn's wonderful season, and got to participate in the Toomer's Corner's parties. In many ways these trees are like the children's book "the giving tree" as something that has watched over the town and families it loves from generation to generation. I pray that they will be saved but I also know that if they do die that the Auburn Spirit will live on.
