I had my first doctor's appointment in many years on Wednesday. Since my pediatrician retired quite a few years ago, I've been reluctant to find a new general care provider.
A couple reasons for this are
1) I'm not particularly comfortable with the amount of openness between patient and doctor. The only other doctor I've seen since my pediatrician was for a cold/flu...and he was a weird old man.
2) When it comes to the medical field, I'm pretty cynical. People being what they are, it's too easy to chase the money without caring about your patients. It leads to mistakes that hurt peoples lives. Maybe I'm scared somebody's gonna stick me with the wrong needle and I'll die*shrug*.
Anyway, the doctor seems pretty cool. He was my Uncle Brian's doctor before he passed away...which didn't help my nerves going in. The basic results of the appointment were thus:
-I apparantly have developed bad enough allergies (from NO allergies when i was young) that I now need daily medication so that I don't have trouble breathing. BOO
-I have high blood pressure that I need to keep an eye on. This might be attributed to nervousness at the doctors office. I took my blood pressure again at home and it was a tiny bit high, but almost normal.
I have another appointment in 6 weeks to see how things are going. Wish me luck!
ALSO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm curious to know how many people still read livejournal so post a comment on this to let me know you're still here! :)
