Mom here. Lately Matthew has been doing the jumping/hand flapping thing again and we're wondering if it might be influenced (or even triggered) by too much tv. Ergo the Great TV Drought . Matthew gets to watch 2 shows on PBS or one video each weekday now. Today he chose Caillou (at 12:30) and Cyberchase (3:30).
Everything was going fine. He watched Caillou and when it was done, turned the tv off with no problem. We played together a bit and when I had to do some stuff, he played by himself with his crash cars. Well, sort of by himself. At one point he called me in to the living room (in my capacity as "Officer Mommy") to tell me that Daddy was a dingo driver and I had to give him a ticket because his car had caused a crash. I told Matthew that Daddy wasn't even here and he replied, "I know. I'm pretending. Give him a ticket, Officer Mommy." Riiiiiiggghhhttt..
Then Matthew asked me to read him his pirate book. We snuggled up on the couch to read and when the book was over, I requested a quiet time of a couple of minutes. To my surprise, Matthew agreed. Should have realized it meant he was going to fall asleep. About an hour and a half later I tried to wake him for Cyberchase; he opened his eyes when I turned on the tv and I thought he was set, but no. When I went back out there, he'd rolled over and kipped out again. Poor kid; he was so upset when he did wake up and realized he'd missed one of his two programs that I let him watch some Bear in the Big Blue House.
Later I made hamburger buns from a recipe that I found on the Web and Matthew was so intrigued with this that he agreed to eat a hamburger at dinnertime. (My thought at this? "Yeah, right! Believe it when I see it, kid!")
Well, he ate it--half of it, anyway. Which is 100% more hamburger than he's ever eaten before. And--gasp!--with ketchup and mustard and mayo, oh my! He even ate the (tiny) salad we gave him!
Okay--who stole our kid and left the changeling?
