Field Trip

I took the day off Monday so I could go to the Children's Museum in West Hartford With Joanne and the boy. Yea! The C.M. has a lot of nostaligic memories for our favorite mommy, who went there often as a child, though as she says "it's changed a lot since then".

The day was very hot but we went in a wonderfully air-conditioned tour bus. Like an idiot I left home without my does of Claratin so was whipsawed by allergies for much of the trip but it was still a lot of fun.

Like his peers, Matthew was a bit overwhelmed by the museum... so much to do and see! However, he did *not* like the dinosaur room, which had a half size animitronic T-Rex. As soon as he realized it moved, he was out of there, and refused to come back though we tried to soothe his fears. So off we went to other exhibits. His favorite, and the place we stayed the longest, was the energy and motion section- how very appropriate for him, though it was popular with the other boys as well. His favorite activity was an inclimed plane that had four slots, set up as a racetrack, with an set of horozontal gates activated by a button so that all cars started at the same time. It even had a timer, to time the fastest car. At the base of the racetrack were sets of legos with wheels, so you could build your own car, and see what things you could do to make it faster.

Matthew was not interested in making his own car (still a little young, I think) but loved racing the ones I made for him. I think he'd have stayed there the whole time if we hadn't made him see other parts of the museum.
