When Bella opened her eyes the first thing she became aware of was how easy it was to see. She had seen before, but this felt different. Like she was seeing with her mind, and other senses that were far beyond the reach of anything else, and more than feeling strange, it felt amazing. As if she were breathing, and she didn't even need the air

Just as Edward had felt Bella the years since he'd known her. He'd always been attuned to her presence, the comfort of her small body, the smell of her. Perhaps, now, she'd have a sense of that awareness.

"Are you thirsty, Bella?"

God, she was beautiful. She'd always been a beauty, but nothing compared to this.

It took her a moment to answer, to blink slowly and take in everything that was around her, as if she were seeing it for the first time. Her tongue pressed against her lips, then her teeth, and she turned to look into his eyes.

"A little," she said, "but it's not..what I thought it would be. I thought I would have gone mad with it, but.."

"You're not?" Edward frowned worriedly. That was...unusual, to say the least. Even Rosalie had been thirsty those first few nights and only her rage at her killers had been enough to keep her from slaking her thirst on human blood.

"Are you weak?" Newborns usually weren't.

Again she shook her head and then her mouth curved slowly. "Are you surprised? Should I be..different than how I feel?"

"You should be mad with thirst," Edward said, frown evident in both face and voice.

"I am thirsty.." Bella didn't know how to voice it, but she wanted something. Her tongue moved against her lips and she swung her feet off the edge of the bed.

"Everything looks..different."

"More clarity?" he asked, giving her a cup of deer blood. "This should help, Bella."

"Thank you." Bella didn't hesitate when the cup was offered, the scent was too impossible to resist and as soon as it was in her hands she tilted the cup back and drank. Now she didn't have to worry about thinking of it as blood, it was..something else. Something more.

Edward sat nearby, reaching a hand out to stroke her hair. "How are you feeling? Describe it to me."

"I'm feeling.." The sensation of his fingers against her hair made her senses prickle and for a moment she closed her eyes to let herself take it in. "..Strong. Very strong. And that..that feels good."

"Go with it," he murmured, kissing her softly. "You're so beautiful and have such control. I'm impressed."

That felt even better and Bella lifted her fingers to bury in his hair, pulling his head closer to hers. "You are? I've impressed you?" Her arm tightened around his waist and she pulled him closer.

"You always impress me, Bella," he said, chuckling a little.

"Yeah?" Bella pushed her hands against his chest and was surprised when she could actually exert a bit of force, to push him to lay down.

Edward smiled up at her. "Still tiny, but a little fierce now?"

Bella's eyes shone. "I'm stronger than you," she said teasingly, turning her face down to kiss him. "Kind of interesting."
