He's entirely politically incorrect, has some gender issues, and an ego the size of a zeppelin (and about as fragile). He named his sexual potency "Mr. Scrooby" and adores Frank Sinatra. His car is a Plymouth hemi, which garners many chuckles. He's an amateur boxer, and trains a lot despite his drinking and smoking. He has recently started using glasses for reading and driving.

Character Information

Appearance: Hemi is a young man of average height and a lean, but heavy build. He trains a little very day to keep in shape. He tends to dress comfortably, with faded jeans and not-too-tight shirts (polo, tee, and button-ups, all). He's blond and has blue eyes, and fairly white skin; though his beard, when he lets it grow, tends to be a lot lighter than his hair.

Personality: His mother dressed him in girl's clothing and made him pretend to be his older sister Carol's twin when he was small. This, along with her psychotic admonishments and constant, obsessive treatment has scarred Hemi in many ways. He has trust and gender issues, which have manifested in more complex trust-in-the-opposite-gender issues, which makes his dating life hell. He does, however, possess a keen mind and a constant, laid back charm that seems to permeate every aspect of his life. Hemi is not someone that does anything half-assed: if he's chilling, he's chill; if he's angry, he's furious; if he's violent... people get hurt. He's a study in extremes that he tries to suppress; a constant struggle that makes each successive explosion of emotion even worse than the last -- a worrisome thought, considering his constantly growing amount of self-destructive activities.

Backstory: Ernest Miller Hemingway was born in a house, not a hospital, to a prominent surgeon (his father) and a fantastic singer (his mother). From an early age, the latter took it upon herself to scar him for life, dressing her young son as a girl and forcing a feminine outlook on life on him. In the subsequent years, Hemi ripped from this stereotype, and became the opposite -- and manipulative, obsessive, charismatic, and dangerous male -- going so far as to adopt a sport that required constant pain, both given and received.

As a pre-teen, Hemingway was dragged away from his home in New York to Paris, leaving behind people and things he cherished. Because of the forced nature of this move, five years later he decided to come back to the U.S., once again bearing charm like a weapon. He arrived a school where a previous acquaintance of his was, and things got a little crazy. It wasn't long before his father killed himself -- a shotgun pointed into the blue, his head placed in between the two -- and Hemingway's world came crashing down. But still, even of this did he somehow manage to recover.

Life had more or less taken a turn for the better for a while, until his mother decided that Paris, France, no longer held anything of value to keep her there. His sisters had already moved back, and since his grandfather had been wanting to return for a while, both he and Silkey Sockey returned to the U.S. This has put a severe cramp in his social world, as she is the bane of his charmed existence. This is one of the many reasons he has escaped to Meridian College, where perhaps he can at least see as little of the wretched psychotic woman as possible.

Skills, Talents, and Likes: Hemingway is a good driver, an excellent amateur boxer, a budding journalist, and has a definite charm that more or less drips from his very being. He can a smattering of trivial skills that he can find use for occasionally, but less often than not; and he enjoys extremes. It doesn't matter what extreme -- so long as it's extreme.

Flaws, Drawbacks, and Dislikes: He's got severe gender issues -- especially when it comes to men dressing in drag. Just seeing it can cause his mood to shatter. Likewise, he sometimes display misogynist qualities that, while not part of his core personality, tend to be a stable part of his social defenses. He hates losing, and can be very sore about it, to the point of ruining meaningful relationships for the sake of competition. Last, but not least: he is the single worst poet in the history of poesy. Ever.
