Petrology Challenge (Chalk) - Comparsion

Title: Comparison
Author: The Wavesinger
Characters/Pairing: Maedhros (slight Fingon/Maedhros)
Rating: G
Warnings: None
Book/Source: Silm
Disclaimer: Everything belongs to Tolkien. I'm just borrowing.

Note: Technically, chalk is a mineral ;). And don't ask me where the adjectives came from. They just did.

Some compare Maedhros to stone. Strong and powerful, they say, a firm, solid presence to cling to when everything else is strange.

Others compare him to water-basically the same yet ever-changing, with as many shades as the sea.

Yet others compare him to fire (an obvious comparison, Maedhros thinks) fierce, radiant, glorious.

A small group-his detractors-compare him to air, empty and feelingless.

They are all wrong

Only Káno’s opinion matters to Maedhros, and Káno compares him to chalk, sometimes, annoyed or playfully (used to, at least)-brittle, plain, easily dissolved.

And Maedhros knows that Káno is right.
